Race

Is there anyone in the Faroe Islands who would not be considered white? Ffda (talk) 17:24, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

What is the goal of this question? Overall, this seems like a worthless question asked out of naive racism, and I see no reason to preserve this section.

"White" has such varied meaning. Under apartheid South African law, Japanese people were considered 'honorary' white. Historically in the US, Italians and Slavs and even Finns were not considered "white". Even if you wish apply US census definitions to peoples living outside of the US, this information isn't tracked by anyone other than the US. If you make up your own definition of "white", like the racist identification with "the Aryan race", then you'll have to revisit old and horridly racist debates like figuring out if 'a high caste Hindu born in the northern Punjab region and classified by certain scientific authorities as of the Aryan race', or if indigenous Europeans like the Basque or Sami, are "white".

For what it's worth, over 700 people (about 1.4% of the population) on the Faroe Islands were born in Africa or Asia. Over 300 of them were born in Thailand or the Philippines. Note that this doesn't necessarily mean "not white". For example, Spanish Filipinos of European descent and Afrikaner would likely be considered "white" by many people in the US, despite coming from families living in respectively Asia and Africa for hundreds of years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.3.31.200 (talk) 15:47, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
