Department of the Army Police v. Department of Defense Police[edit]

Since there is no distinct "Department of Defense Police", I think it's silly to have an article on "Dept of Defense Police". The military has Department of the Army Civilian Police, Department of the Navy Civilian Police, Department of the Air Force Civilian Police, and United States Marine Corps Civilian Police. There are also other DOD agencies, such as Defense Logistics Agency Police, Pentagon Force Protection Agency, etc. but they are not called "Dept of Defense Police". This term is no longer in use. If we are going to be encyclopedic, we ought to use the agencies correct name and not nicknames. 192.100.69.170 (talk) 18:59, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Department of The Army Police are seperate and distinct from the Department of Defense Police. The Department of Army Police are governed by Army Regulation, managed by the Provost Marshal General through the Provost Marshal, and have training and Doctrine developed out of the United States Army Military Police School. None of this applies to Department of Defense Police. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.79.13.6 (talk) 17:33, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The Department of Defense Police is a colloquial "catch-all" term that does not accurately define or represent the distinctions between the civilian police programs within the DOD system. Therefore, it should remain separate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Slomax1223 (talkcontribs) 15:37, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ft Irwin[edit]

Why does this article have bunch of material specifically about the police at Ft Irwin? Is Ft Irwin somehow special? Or did someone dump a mass of text from the web page of the Ft Irwin police into this article? Isomorphic (talk) 08:50, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There was an article about the Fort Irwin PD that was merged into this page after a brief talk page discussion following a merge proposal. (see here). However, it appears the entire page was unsourced, and now all that content has made this page largely unsourced and in need of cleanup. - theWOLFchild 09:57, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That content should have been deleted, not merged here. The Army has dozens of major installations like Ft Irwin; it would be infeasible for this article could have detailed information about the police detachment at each one. If an individual base's police department wasn't deemed notable enough to have its own article (which is a decision I agree with), then there's no place for this content on Wikipedia. I'm going to delete the section. Isomorphic (talk) 18:10, 14 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
