Difference between an departure tax and an airport tax[edit]

This article needs to distinguish between airport taxes (like Britain's Air Passenger Duty) which are charged for passengers departing by air, and Departure tax, which are charged to all leaving the country. It is unclear which countries have a departure tax which is applied at land or sea borders. TiffaF (talk) 18:05, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is an important point. Arguably a pure departure tax, levied on anyone leaving the country regardless of method, is a breach of human rights under Article 13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights since nonpayment would imply preventing the person from leaving.
