Added a bit about the Players Tribune, added postseason records, added information about jersey retirement and monument park plaque

Derek Sanderson Jeter (/ˈdʒiːtər/ jee-tər) (born June 26, 1974) is an American former professional baseball shortstop who played all 20 seasons of his Major League Baseball (MLB) career for the New York Yankees. A five-time World Series champion, Jeter is regarded as a central figure of the Yankees' success of the late 1990s and early 2000s for his hitting, baserunning, fielding, and leadership, serving as the Yankees' team captain from 2003 until his retirement in 2014. He is the Yankees' all-time career leader in hits(3,465), doubles (544), games played (2,747), stolen bases (358), times on base (4,716), plate appearances(12,602) and at bats (11,195). His accolades include 14 All-Star selections, five Gold Glove Awards, five Silver Slugger Awards, two Hank Aaron Awards, and a Roberto Clemente Award. Jeter became the 28th player to reach 3,000 hits and finished his career sixth all-time in career hits and the all-time MLB leader in hits by a shortstop.

The Yankees drafted Jeter out of high school in 1992, and he debuted in the major leagues at age 21 in 1995. The following year, he became the Yankees' starting shortstop, won the Rookie of the Year Award, and helped the team win the 1996 World Series. Jeter continued to contribute during the team's championship seasons of 1998–2000; he finished third in voting for the American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award in 1998, recorded multiple career-high numbers in 1999, and won both the All-Star Game MVP and World Series MVP Awards in 2000. He consistently placed among the AL leaders in hits and runs scored for most of his career. Throughout his career, Jeter contributed reliably to the Yankees' franchise successes. He holds many postseason records such as Plate Appearances, Runs Scored, Hits, Total Bases, Singles, Doubles, and Triples. In addition, he has a .321 batting average in the World Series. Jeter has earned the nicknames of "Captain Clutch" and "Mr. November" due to his outstanding play in the postseason.

Jeter is one of the most heavily marketed athletes of his generation and is involved in several product endorsements. His personal life and relationships with celebrities have drawn the attention of the media throughout his career because he lived such a private life as an athlete in such a large media hub, New York City. Teammates and opponents alike regard Jeter as a consummate professional and one of the best players of his generation. On May 14th, 2017 Jeter's number, 2, will be retired by the New York Yankees and a plaque in Monument Park will also be added. He is the last of the single-digit numbers to be added. [1]

After his career as a baseball player, Jeter launched a website, ThePlayersTribune.com, a platform for athletes to directly express their stories and views to fans and the world at large. Notable announcements and articles include the retirements of David Ortiz, Kobe Bryant, & Steve Nash as well as the free agency movements of Kevin Love and Kevin Durant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Angaduppal147 (talkcontribs)

Jeter's number is retired.

On May 14, 2017, the now-retired Jeter was honored by the Yankees with a plaque in Monument Park and by retiring his #2 famous jersey. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Octopusmusic (talkcontribs) 16:49, 15 May 2017 (UTC)

Under Career Highlights and Awards section, there is nothing about Jeter winning the 2000 All-Star Game MVP. However, it is listed underneath in the overview section. 2603:7000:6F03:1C47:28CD:809C:6629:7FF2 (talk) 13:03, 26 August 2022 (UTC)

Partly done: I've edited the article for your second request. I've declined for the first one given that there seems to be a clear distinct between the two, and combining the both appears to fluff a section for no reason. Callmemirela 🍁 20:25, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
