Notable academics[edit]

I think it might be useful if this section gave details of the affiliation of these people. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.42.141.93 (talk) 14:10, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Human security[edit]

Given the important relationship between development studies and human security and the emergence of human security in international discourse, I felt this article would benefit from a brief paragraph on the relationship between the two. I have attempted to demonstrate how human security brings a fresh approach to development issues and how it defines development and security as inseperable issues. Debates[edit]

Under this heading LEDCs, LDCs and OECD should be spelled out. Persons viewing the Development studies article may not have encountered these specialty terms before.

References[edit]

I could not find reference 5 on Amazon.com It would be appreciated if the author could provide the ISBN.

Marginalization of Academic Periphery[edit]

The list headed `Academic Departments' omits many universities with important Development Studies programmes that are located peripherally to Northern centres, e.g., several universites in New Zealand. Thus, the page reflects a centrist (Northcentric) ideology that can be accused of being geographically and culturally biased and hegemonist, or neocolonialist. Lead should be rewritten[edit]

The lead paragraph does not even explain what development studies is. Also, degrees offered by different colleges should not be mentioned in the lead at all, that should be its own section in the body. I'm not familiar with the subject at all personally, but thought I would point this out Pythagimedes (talk) 02:16, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
