Map showing distribution[edit]

A map showing the distribution of the Gifblaar plant in Southern Africa would be very informative. Unfortunately, I am not very good at Photoshop or image editing so if anybody else can create such a map that would be great. Otherwise, give me time and I will create the map myself (I should learn image editing anyway) if it is not up within the next few weeks. --User:DiscipleOfKnowledge (talk) 14:00, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I always wonder a bit how much one should try to do everything one's self, versus how much to collaborate and get others that are specialists, make their contributions which may be faster and better. It can be very motivational to find people at Wiki that are clearly good at what they do (I even have a little list at the bottom of my userpage). For simple things like crops and uploads, I've enjoyed learning how to do it (and to it). That said, I've been involved with pages where clearly, I could not have gotten the quality of the images or tables done by myself (see the range map in "Painted turtle".

My advice to you, would be to request help from FS. If you can describe the range geographically or give a source that shows it, he can construct a nice range map for you. You could kinda mention the fluorine connect as he is already pretty involved in that page as we take it to FA. Plus he is a super nice guy. If he doesn't have time, then go to the image help desk and track down someone else. Or learn how to do it...and then have them pretty it up.

One thing...I would be very strict about making sure we define the range as best we know it. Since you are the one involved in the article, looking at sources, you will be the one who knows which source is more reliable when they differ (and make the call on what we display). Also, urge you to make sure that range map and article text are consistent. That drives me up a wall, when I am reading an animal article and there is disagreement of map and text (don't know which to trust and makes me question if either agrees with sources).TCO (talk) 14:19, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

photo of the plant, showing serveral parts growing up[edit]

Text talks about (and I have seen on the web [3]) pics of many plants grouped together. If we could get a pic like that would help illustrate the "root network" concept. I just splatted all my pics into this article, but we could cut some of them also, in priority of one that shows something more helpful.TCO (talk) 14:30, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
