No mention of competition

There is no mention of competitors in this article. I don't shop at sporting goods stores, so I can't think of any national chains that compete with Dick's, but they should be worth a mention here. Gilliamjf 12:05, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

This article claims Dick's is the largest full-line sporting goods store in the world, but the Sports Authority article claims that the Sports Authority (which has more stores) is the largest in the nation. One of these claims is false. 153.42.34.130 00:31, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Dick's claims 1st nationwide in sales. Sports Authority is 1st in number of stores, if i'm not mistaken. It comes down to your definition of "1st Place." --Hinaningyo (talk) 18:28, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

There are currently no competitors to DSG except for the smaller regional chains, none of which currently appear on Wikipedia, therefore I'm removing the POV dispute. TomHawkey 12:15, 19 December 2005 (UTC -5)

One has to remember that in several parts of the country, one or two of the three chains in question has no market share. Sports Authority in Western Michigan, the Dakotas and Appalachia, for example.--Hinaningyo (talk) 18:28, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Binghamton store

Which one are you calling Store #1? The building which is still there on Ely St. and Court? That is actually not #1. The REAL store #1 was in a storefront on the eastern-most end of the original building which came to house Jack Sherman Toyota on Court St. and near the then-corner of Howard Ave. That actual original store was called "Dick's Army/Navy", in the 1950's. I remember it well. The free-standing structure which is on the east corner of Oliver St. was in fact store #2, and was built in the early 60's. That one was the first to be named "Dick's Sporting Goods". The larger one to it's south (right) was originally the site of a supermarket, and later became Dick's, sometime after 1975. Which one do you want a picture of? I think there is some attempt to streamline and tailor the early story. Or do they really not remember? I know I remember.

Vandalization
