Can somebody actually confirm that the field of Cyber Anthology exists? I'm no expert on this, but it almost sounds like something somebody made up, *expecting* it to exist, when it doesn't really get studied anywhere. This isn't to say it *shouldn't* be, but if there are no academics in the field, no research being done, then there shouldn't really be a page saying it exists.
Yet. :)

Whether anthro* exists in cyber form or not, this stub looks dreadful.

cyberanthropology, does it exist?
To be honest, I somewhat stumbled over this stub, and I guess it's my duty to expand it. Yes, cyberanthropology exists. Within anthropology it still is an 'emerging' field, and there exists no consensus definition of it yet. I pasted in my definition, which was a part of the call of papers for a workshop on cyberanthropology which I organised at last years conference of the German Anthropological Association. Here's the original call for papers: http://xirdal.lmu.de/cgi-bin/blosxom.cgi/2005/02/17#GAA05_cyberanthropology My weblog ( http://xirdal.lmu.de/cgi-bin/blosxom.cgi ) and website ( http://xirdal.lmu.de/ ) are the visible end of a research-project in cyberanthropology. There's much more on the subject, especially different viewpoints. I'll gather it and fuse it to a larger and more comprehensive article, especially taking care of perspectives different from mine.
Another thing: I'd prefer the spelling 'cyberanthropology', but do not know how to change that. Is it necessary to delete the article 'Cyber anthropology' and replace it by a new one called 'cyberanthropology'?

cyberanthropology article revision
Obviously I am not yet familiar with Wikipedia's interface and working-principle. I beg your pardon for that. Now I found the older discussion on deletion of the article 'Cyber anthropology'. Obviously someone had copied and pasted a machine-translated article and violated copyright by that. What I copied and pasted into the article is my own intellectual property, so I am perfectly allowed to do so. Furthermore my material already is published at my website under a CC-licence, so everybody else is allowed to use my material (if s/he deems it worthwhile) for e.g. Wikipedia. Attribution is required, though.

I fixed a couple grammar errors and matched the spelling to the article title before I read the talk page, if you (meaning Zephyrin), as the resident expert on the field, prefer the other spelling then maybe there's a way to redirect this entire article to Cyberanthropology. Jseipel 07:20, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for fixing the grammar errors! In respect to the spelling, I indeed would favor the spelling "Cyberanthropology", have the whole article there, and have "Cyber anthropology" redirect there. I'll enlarge the article and place correct references into the text as soon as possible. zeph 15:55, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
We could probably just do the switch ourselves, but I don't know how to do a redirect haha. Jseipel 23:17, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Needing help?
I don't think Cybernthropology is considered a scientific field by everyone, perhaps because it has to be new field considering it's a study of social interaction on the net, and the internet hasn't really been popularized till the recently, meaning that research on the subject isn't older than about 15 years or so. That's not a lot of information to work with in a scientific field of research. Also I agree with the spelling of "Cyberanthropolgy" I think there could be more links , such as trolls, and certain internet shibboleths. I'd like to help expand this article, and would love to help with this article. I'm very interested in the feild but need a little help w/ the technicalities. Flclovesun 22:18, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
cyberanthropology is not just the anthropology of cyberspace
I completely disagree with the renaming of the article, as it fundamentally contradicts what is said in the article's text. Cyberanthropology is not just about doing "anthropology in cyberspace", but deals also with e.g. the consequences of the introduction of modern ICTs into anthropology's "classical fields". "Anthropology of cyberspace" implies research on sociocultural interaction online, to which cyberanthropology can not and should not be reduced. Nevertheless I agree that the article needs a substantial overhaul to clarify matters and citations of the perspectives on cyberanthropology by various researchers. I'll try to do that as soon as possible. zeph 16:24, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
