Talk:Digital switchover dates in the United Kingdom

Changes[edit]

The change in colour was intended to match that on the map, and the original doesn't seem to stand out. No vandalism was intended. On a related note reagrding the map, the Oxford transmitter does not switch over until September 2011, and the Westcountry TV region switched in 2009, not 2008. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.97.13.31 (talk) 16:25, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As there was more information about switchover in the Digital terrestrial television in the United Kingdom#Digital_switchover article, I've change this page to "switchover dates" as it seems to work better without duplication.  BRIANTIST  (talk) 08:24, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Digitaltick.jpg[edit]

Image:Digitaltick.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Worl Cup 2010 in HD in London[edit]

The August 2009 issue of Which? magazine states that in 2009 the BBC had applied for the London switchover to be moved forward from 2012 in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but I can't find any decent corroboration, so I'm just noting it here. MickMacNee (talk) 22:23, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stage 1 / stage 2[edit]

What's the difference between the two stages? Walt111 (talk) 18:14, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stage 1 = Analogue BBC Two switched off and digital Multiplex 1 moved into its old place
Stage 2 = All remaining analogue channels switched off and digital multiplexes moved into their old places. -- [[ axg ⁞⁞ talk ]] 18:25, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New dates[edit]

The dates I added were taken from this website. ZanderSchubert (talk) 03:22, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, will add it as a reference and restore the dates you added. Paul2387 15:49, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ukfree.tv is not an official site for the digital switchover, "On or before (TBC) Saturday 30th October 2010", this states that it is "to be confirmed", also the dates are simply either "30th" or "1st" rather than the spread of the others which have been confirmed, plus most of the switchovers have been on the Wednesday. -- [[ axg ◉ talk ]] 19:17, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can I suggest before we get into an edit war that we ask Brian Butterworth (the person who runs UKfree.tv) to verify where he got his dates from per WP:SOURCE. Thanks Paul2387 03:30, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, certainly. -- [[ axg ◉ talk ]] 13:01, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Left a message on UKfree.tv so should have verification soon from Brian Butterworth. Then we can decide what happens next via this discussion till then the dates will stay as they are. Paul2387 15:32, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Paul2387! Here goes my list of references from my (otherwise unpublished) database. To save an "edit war" dates when listed officially as "end of 2nd quater" are posted 30th June for example, "end of March" will be "March 31st". Any other dates are from Arqiva documents that were online, but are not anymore. I don't think I have to change a date by more than a few weeks from that document. If a date isn't a Wednesday, you can be sure it's TBC.

Restored rest of dates and added a note to remind people that they are still To Be Confirmed also referenced this thread in edit summaries for people to look at this discussion if there not sure why the dates should be there. This is especially relevant to User:AxG who's two edits [17] and [18] removed the dates with the edit summaries Those dates are not correct, all dates come from Digital UK, who have not announced them and I fail to see where these dates are from the former is incorrect as Braintist has now given some additional sources above. Hope this helps Paul2387 23:44, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • No offence guys, but AxG was right, if a date doesn't come from Digital UK, it's not confirmed. Simple as that. Digifiend (talk) 00:36, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

The map has Oxford as DSO complete with a date of April 2011 but the body text says DSO is in September. The map is wrong, can someone please correct.86.26.164.225 (talk) 18:25, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you are right, I'll fix it right away. -- [[ axg ◉ talk ]] 22:49, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the map it seems that the line pointing to the South West of England should read 2009, not 2008 as all the changes occurred in 2009. Just thought I'd point it out :) Delusion23 (talk) 10:18, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah another mistake of mine, I'll also fix that straight away, thanks! -- [[ axg ◉ talk ]] 10:46, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merge article?[edit]

With switchover now completed, might Wikipedia users be better served by merging this article in with the main Digital terrestrial television in the United Kingdom article? P M C 19:12, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

IP editor has changed all the dates with no references[edit]

Someone has changed all the dates. I have no idea why, I have no idea on what basis. I have no idea where the original dates came from, and don't feel qualified to handle this. If anyone actually cares, someone could look into whether these dates are correct, or just someone's flight of fancy. I intend to put a disputed tag on the page and will refer to this section. I don't actually know where to find reliable dates, or I'd have a go at fixing it. Sorry! Elemimele (talk) 17:02, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
