Zoff is a rather unusual name for an Italian. Is there a story behind the name? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.182.125.58 (talk) 16:34, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Zoff" is a slang word that means "trouble" or "quarrel" in German speaking countries. It has Yiddish roots that ultimately come from the hebrew term "sof" ("ending"), "mieser Sof" (bad ending) in Yiddish became "Zoff". Fulcher (talk) 14:34, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Italy at the World Cup in 1978

[edit]

It says they lost to Holland in the semi-finals. There were no semi-finals that time but a second phase (where Italy were eliminated and Holland qualified). The first phase was groups of 4 teams and 2 qualified from each as normal, but they went into 2 groups of 4 teams. The winners of those 2 groups went to the final (Holland from their group) with the runners-up going to the third place play off (Italy in that group). Argentina and Brazil finished 1 and 2 in the other group. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr gobrien (talkcontribs) 20:02, 26 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
