Why separate article

[edit]

The reason for an article separate from Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Utrecht is that the original archdiocese was suppressed in 1580. The modern archdiocese was erected in 1853. They share the same name and the same patrimony but are different corporate entities with a gap of about 270 years between them. –BoBoMisiu (talk) 20:07, 8 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Archdiocese of Utrecht (695–1580)Diocese of Utrecht (695–1580) – This article has been moved more than once, so it is apparently controversial. It was a diocese for almost its entire history, so that is the better title. • Weak support. I don't really have strong feelings here. I see your point, and normally would concede. But I am not sure it doesn't run foul of any policy or cause trouble for any lists, and that it might be reverted back. I was waiting to see what other opinions might emerge here before making up my mind. And might yet change it. But if you want my two cents for now, I think it makes sense.
