I believe this article is essentially correct as I witnessed two of these recording sessions at some time in 1977-1979. I remember there were basically 4-5 takes (sessions) per side. The producer finally selected one side master that he considered the most true.

I re-listened to the Laurindo Almeida album Virtuoso Guitar and you can hear some errors but in my opinion they do not distract from the overall quality of the recording.

One omission from the article is it shouild mention that many (most?) 12" disks were recorded at 45rpm rather than 33rpm. Some single songs were recorded on a 10" single format recorded at 78rpm. I had both formats in my collection but the 12", 45rpm was by far the bulk of my collections.

One impact of the higher recording speeds was stylus wear and tear due to the higher playback speed. Sapphire styli were not up to the task so diamond and ultra-diamond became the norm. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Estarbrook (talk • contribs) 15:01, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
