Direction Island (Exmouth Gulf)Direction Island (Mackerel Islands) – This Direction Island is not located in the Exmouth Gulf, it is located in the Mackerel Islands group, off the coast of Onslow. The change request is to correct the geography and identify the location of the island as being part of the Mackerel Islands group, which comprises of ten islands in total 1.126.48.159 (talk) 06:05, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • oppose - in principle - rubbish - look at the ips edit history - all part of a promo push...
however - the whole north west pilbara coast issue - if it is in fact need of correction - we need some care in not becoming part of the mackeral promotional business JarrahTree 04:14, 25 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • oppose - When I created the article the relevant gazetteers told me the most relevant "official" name was Direction Island (Exmouth Gulf). The gazetteers still tell me this; they make no mention of any officially named island group named "The Mackerel Islands". If you can find me an official (i.e. government) publication that mentions "The Mackerel Islands", AND names the ten islands that make up this officially named group, then I will be happy to read it and reconsider my opinion. There is an article for "Direction Island (Cocos (Keeling) Islands)" so it made sense to me to identify this Direction Island in the same way, as part of a group of islands. Similar to articles for islands located in the Houtman Abrolhos group. However I note that islands in the Whitsundays group do not carry this distinction. There are multiple government publications referencing "Mackerel Islands" but I haven't found one also naming the individual islands. Literature states "ten islands and atolls" so they may not all have official names. Thanks for replying.
There is an article for "Direction Island (Cocos (Keeling) Islands)" so it made sense to me to identify this Direction Island in the same way, as part of a group of islands. - Well yes - but ... I've mentioned "official names". Yes, I understand your reasoning, but it's not altogether relevant.
Similar to articles for islands located in the Houtman Abrolhos group. - Again, not relevant. Those are the "official names" for those islands.
However I note that islands in the Whitsundays group do not carry this distinction. - Precisely. Because they are not the "official names".
There are multiple government publications referencing "Mackerel Islands" - Wellll - not really referencing them by an "official name" ... I note your later references which I have not yet examined. I'll make further comments when I have examined them.
Literature states - Sorry, but which/what "literature" in which/what context?
Again, thanks for replying. I'll reply further once I've read the pages you have pointed me to. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 10:24, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
