Promotional?

Dirty Jobs is a program on Discovery channel not a job ad!

I agree... what this person felt good making this connection but it happens on all episodes of television... late night shows will say certain things before they go to commercial to help the advertisers, and there are numerous other examples. To comment on each time something like this happens would be insanity because it's what drives television. I'm deleting the promotional section. RYNORT (talk) 01:01, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Original was copyvio

The original version of this article [1] was a copyvio of the Discovery Channel's promotional material - see [2] for example. And everyone, please sign your comments with four tildes ~~~~ ! FreplySpang (talk) 18:52, August 26, 2005 (UTC)

What sort of jobs

I think the whole point of having this show is to excite and exploit interest in disgusting and/or taboo things. That's why I placed this phrase in the intro:it is a cool show. i think he should work on cow farms.

disgusting or taboo things like road kill and animal excrement.

It's like Jackass and the stupid stunt / reality shows. Uncle Ed 15:40, August 29, 2005 (UTC)

I diasgree. It is nothing like Jackass, where they do stupid stunt and nasty things (especially Steve O) like sucking a worm up his nose or squeezing fish eggs and sperm into his mouth. What Mike does is real jobs performed every day by real people.PrometheusX303 13:14, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
I support your thinking about the jobs, and do not believe the last round of edits improved the article -- they only changed it. paul klenk 07:14, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
Changing is either imroving or making it worse than what it was(after you edit it), I made a good change...

Imdaking 03:24:28, 2005-08-31 (UTC)

What was good about it? Paul Klenk 05:37, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
I always felt the idea was to let people in on the jobs real people have to do, so they can understand it better.. I dunno, it always felt really positive to me.. Like if you feel underappreciated, you can watch the show and realize some people have it just as bad/work just as hard.. or even submit your job to the show.. well.. yeah. that.

I think the show's purpose is to educate people about what otherwise insane jobs go into making life normal for everyone else. Mike doesn't get on camera and go "Hey, watch me eat this feces!". It's more like, "So you actually want me to clean out all the feces in here?" Mustang6172 03:14, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

I know this isn't truly relevant to the article, but he would probably say the word "poo" instead of "feces". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.194.118.10 (talk) 21:33, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Remotely clean-ish jobs

I added some jobs, and will add more that Mike Rowe has done. 65.96.98.74 06:20, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

how about an episode guide? Dwp49423 23:07, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Censoring

I found it odd that they had no problem with showing Mike washing a horse's labia and putting his arm into it's vagina and anus, but when he worked at a pet grooming place, they censored the genitalia. PrometheusX303 13:14, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Could be paranoia fallout from Janet Jackson's Wardrobe Malfunction a few Super Bowls ago even though my understanding is the FCC has no control over cable content. Dwp49423 23:05, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
In repeats of that episode, they censor the labia EvilHom3r 20:07, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

I a recent episode Hoof Trimmer the kid working with Mike Rowe said crap but when Mike said it they bleeped him. Lobot72 00:44, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Anthem

Mike sang this on the geoduck farmer episode. I'm not sure if it can be properly placed in the article, though.

Now everyone who's got a job has got his dues to pay,
working for that paycheck and just getting through the day,
but if you're bored or otherwise inclined to be a slob,
grab your boots, and lose that suit and get a dirty job.

Dirty jobs are everywhere, just take a look around.
They're down the street, they're up the stairs,
they're even underground.

You don't need borrow, beg and you don't need to rob,
All you've got to do is get yourself a dirty job.
All you've got to do is get yourself a dirty job.
One more...
All you've got to do is get your.. self... a... dir... ty... job!

PrometheusX303 20:39, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Wasn't that at the end of the Viewer's Choice episode after the oyster harvesting? As for inserting it into the article, I suppose you could add it to a trivia section, but I seem to recall that it was an unofficial anthem so might not be noteworthy enough for inclusion. Maybe if they played it more frequently in the future. -- Gogo Dodo 21:28, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry for the bad formating...
He sang it at the end of the pipe organ specialist segment. I don't think I've seen the viewer's choice episode, so it might be there too. I found the anthem here. It's the only hit I got for it. PrometheusX303 00:54, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
I remember the pipe organ episode, but don't remember the singing. Hmpf. Since it's been show a couple of times, maybe it should be inserted into a trivia section: "Mike Rowe wrote an unofficial theme song whose words are..." -- Gogo Dodo 19:57, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure he wrote it, but he did sing it. I'll add it. PrometheusX303 20:05, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
I do remember Mike singing with a bunch of guys after the oyster harvesting segment, but I don't think that version was ever replayed. I don't remember if the lyrics of that version is the same as the one he sang more recently ("pipe organ", "100th special"). The oyster version might not even be "canon" anyway since it was impromptu and all the guys in the scene were drunk... Wl219 04:30, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
not that I don't see the value of having the lyrics to this available (I enjoyed reading it!), but it over powers the article. Can we simply link to it elsewhere? I don't see lyrics in any other articles. Stuph 20:25, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

For the record, he sung it in four episodes. At the end of the Oyster segment, During the Views choice special(they replayed the clip from the oyster segment), at the end of the pipe organ cleaner segment, and during the 100th dirty job special. EvilHom3r 14:35, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Also, today in the new episode "Deer Tanner", he sang a small part of the song. just a few lines though EvilHom3r 02:00, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Previous Television Experience

Isn't Mike Rowe an old host from the shopping channel QVC?

According to his bio on the Discovery Channel: "In cleaner days, Mike Rowe sang professionally with the Baltimore Opera, sold over $100 million of "simulated" diamonds on QVC and appeared in several dozen Tylenol commercials." PrometheusX303 20:17, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Aren't all those lyrics serious copyright infringement? - Joshua368 03:51, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I removed it. -- Gogo Dodo 04:58, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

God people, stop removing lyrics from articles. Copyright law be damned. Damned I say! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.73.48.43 (talk) 23:25, 27 December 2006 (UTC).

Fair use rationale for Image:Dirtyjobslogo.JPG

Image:Dirtyjobslogo.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:05, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Song....

"Commercials for the show feature the song "Dirty White Boy" by Foreigner."

They no longer use that song. EvilHom3r 02:10, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Requests for submissions at the end of every episode - not in Canada

I watch Dirty Jobs regularly on Discovery Channel Canada and they always cut out the request for submissions, going straight to the bloopers or whatever. I'll add this to the article, but this is the sort of thing you're unlikley to see cited on a website or in a magzine. The verification comes from watching a Canadian broadcast of Dirty Jobs. 68.146.41.232 (talk) 19:27, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

How is that fact relevant (or even interesting)? If the Canadian Broadcast System decides to edit out the requests for dirty jobs section, it's probably because it's an American show and Mike's not planning to fly all the way to Canada to partake in dirty jobs up there. It's not part of the show, and Disovery Channel probably had nothing to do with the decision. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.62.190.18 (talk) 22:26, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Music section too long

This section needs to be trimmed -- it is almost half the article, and most of the details are not that important.

Small error

In the first paragraph, it says the pilot aired November 2004, but in the side bar, it says November 2003. Don't know which is right. Sean118 (talk) 02:41, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

2003 is correct. I fixed it. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 04:58, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Are there any sources to back up 2003? I'm fine with the fix, but it seems a ref would be nice. tedder (talk) 09:47, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
There is the IMDB listing, the TV.com listing, and TVGuide.com listing. All of which are listed on the List of Dirty Jobs episodes article. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 06:20, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

critique

As a Wikipedia article cannot include "original" research, someone should add references to reviews of the show. I would like to point out that a good chunk of the show's humor lies in seeing a blatantly heterosexual man behave in a wussy, sometimes effeminate manner when confronted with uncomfortable situtations, but I can't. (And has anyone uncovered an episode in which Mike doesn't say "poo" at least once?) WilliamSommerwerck (talk) 11:29, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Article for Barsky?

Does anyone else think that Dave Barsky could meet notability guidelines for his own article? He has quite a bit of on-air time in Dirty Jobs, second only to Mike. His IMDB bio shows along list of credits as a producer. Finally, a simple Google search turns up over 26,000 hits. --StuffOfInterest (talk) 14:35, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Dirty Jobs Down Under

Is Dirty Jobs Down Under a new season of the original show or a brand new series? The press release suggests the latter but Discovery's television marketing is advertising it as the former. I've added the Down Under's episodes to this page and the episode page. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 15:52, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Combining them is good with me. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 04:29, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
