Does anyone have a picture of it? I'd like to see what the first portable CD player looked like. Richy 11:26, 15 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Discman-SONY-logo.gif

[edit]

Image:Discman-SONY-logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:02, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page clear

[edit]

I noticed that the page is cleared and replaced with the flipper thingy. I restored it to the latest revision available. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.111.178.49 (talk) 14:48, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Genericized trademark

[edit]

It's definitely notable that Discman is a genericized trademark. 68.146.112.146 (talk) 04:42, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Models

[edit]

Should the article have a full list of models? 2fort5r (talk) 13:58, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Be bold! --Kvng (talk) 01:39, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, or it should at least have a section on notable models over the years before Minidisc, ATRAC/MP3 and phones took over.

No direct walkman equivalent

[edit]

It should be noted that the discman was never intended as a functional, truly mobile replacement for the walkman. It took very long, up until the early 2000s or so, if ever, to come up with discmen that were truly as portable as that you could walk around with them. --2003:EF:1700:B439:E973:7C5E:5D6A:FB10 (talk) 17:31, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

On Discman brand use.

[edit]

While the CD Walkman brand began replacing the Discman brand in 1997, the latter was used until at least 2000 with the D-E201 and alike.

If it really is the last, then I may put up a picture of it. BrendonIrwan (talk) 10:28, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Walkmans and Discmans stopped being produced at the beginning of the 2010s

[edit]

The Walkman stopped production in 2010 and the Discman stopped production around the beginning of the 2010s also. Eusouwikipede2001 (talk) 01:55, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
