Gen I was correct. But typically people who own these vehicles say 1992 thru 1996 was "Gen II". then 1997 thru to 2004 was Gen III. -dan

That's not true. The "second generation" Dakota you speak of is actually the first gen Dakota refreshed, so it doesn't count as a different generation. --ApolloBoy 23:48, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

chassis question[edit]

i currently have a 93 ext. cab dakota and was wondering if chassis parts (like control arms) from a gen2 are interchangeable. can i use gen 2 control arms? this would make it so much easier to purchase custom parts.--Silverblackdak 00:25, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hate to say but that first comment is right the 92-96 Dakotas are concidered GenII, for simple reasons, one the bolt pattern is changed and among other various things, ask any dakota enthusiast and they will tell you exactly what I and the other gentleman have told, you, please learn your facts before you post, although I liked your post, you are wrongm redo it, and right now the dakota is in its forth generation, not its third, sorry for ahving to tell you this man but you need to listen to what people say lol

There are three "generations" of the Dodge Dakota. Image's of such are evident in this article. Saying there are four generations is certianly incorrect.

No, there are 4 generations. The 87-91 only share the cab and bed with the 92-96. Suspension upgrades, a different engine family, completely different electronics, etc etc............certainly there aren't a bunch of seperate Gen 1 and Gen 2 truck clubs based off of those body styles for no reason. Also, any R/T owner will say his truck is a Gen 3, and the few people that own the latest body style agree they are Gen 4's. Theres an old saying...........if one person tells you that you're wrong, you can laugh and ignore them, but if 100 people say you are wrong, its time to correct yourself. Gen II...[edit]

You're both right. The original style is considered as being Gen I, from a stylistic standpoint, but many dealers have to distinguish the difference between the original and the refreshened one, as not all body panels were interchangable (hood, grill, front fenders). The Gen II actually began in 1991 (not 92), this is when they got the slightly rounder grill, and Magnum series engines...and "yes", most 90 & prior suspension components will fit a 91+, as long as they were the same truck with the same size engine (I think that V8 trucks had slightly heavier duty components, if I remember correctly...I could be wrong though). They are almost identical and most parts will work on one or the other. A good article over all. Jon the dodgeboy 02:52, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

in my opinion, this page is written like an ad[edit]

That's just a general vibe I'm getting; I will cite one example: "The name Dakota means "friend or ally" in the Sioux Indian language, and the Dakota has found many friends in the millions of buyers that have purchased these versatile vehicles." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mark dittmer (talkcontribs) 11:00, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Branding[edit]

As far as I've seen, there has been absolutely no indication that the truck is now called "Ram Dakota." Of the two references provided, the first says nothing about the Dakota (as such, it is being removed), and the second is just a link to the Ram Trucks website, where clicking on the Dakota's page brings you back to the Dodge site where you'll find pictures of the truck badged as a Dodge. I'm placing a "dubious" tag on that information until a reliable source is found that definitively states that the Dodge Dakota is now called "Ram Dakota." --Sable232 (talk) 19:26, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Dakota certainly does come up under "vehicles" on the new Ram website, and the dakota is still a Dodge just as the ram is still a dodge, although they are listed as a new subsidiary of dodge called RAM. If you want to get technical, the dakota and ram are now Chrysler-Dodge-Ram-Ram model and Chrysler-Dodge-Ram-Dakota respectively. Ram Brand was adopted in 2009 not 2010. Ram is also under the heading of Dodge even though it is a Ram brand now because it is a subsidiary of Dodge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrew7684 (talkcontribs) 06:54, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're getting at. If the name of the truck is Dodge Dakota, then that's what matters. If it's the Dodge Dakota from the Ram Truck Division, that makes enough sense and the article should reflect that. What you had here was fairly decent, but the current version is really wordy and doesn't make much sense (and the capital letters make it look and read awful).
Would "The Dodge Dakota is a mid-size pickup truck from Chrysler's Ram division. From 1987 through 2009, it was marketed by Dodge." be correct? --Sable232 (talk) 05:16, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
