67.174.43.244 added the following, concerning the origin of Dogtown's name:

Dogtown recieved it's name due to an eccentric woman who lived there and bred dogs. Miners and such who lost a loved one would often buy a dog from the lady who ran the kennels. Rumors persist about alleged sexual affairs between the lady who owned Dogtown and her pets.

I've moved it off the main article to the talk page. It's nothing I've ever seen alleged in any of the research I did on Dogtown. It's hard to see breeding dogs under conditions such as Dogtown was exposed to, being both exposed to the elements, short of building material and a long ways from adequate food sources. It also conflicts with the one claim I had encountered, namely that Dogtown is a term applied to most any hastily-improvised mining town. Most towns either grow out of it or disappear. At any rate, if we can come up with a reasonable reference we can make use of it, but this claim strains credibility as-is.
