Untitled[edit]

Shouldnt we mention that Dolph actually don't seem to hate that many people, but that he does, in fact, suffer from uncontrolled fear, such as in the episodes where he actually meets a negro, he doesnt try to hurt them, but he does in fact scream and run away, pleading to Wulff that he have them sent back to Belgium. It seems to me like he just tries to hide his fear behind the apparent racism. Also, he is actually a vegetarian, according to Wulffmorgenthaler episode 3, I think, where Wulff also mention that Dolph cant digest pork. 82.192.146.25 03:14, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good observations. I agree, Dolph is - basically - a big coward with a giant ego, but no muscle to back it up. Regarding the issue about him being a vegetarian, are you sure you are not referring to one of the recent episodes in "Dolph & Wulff"? In episode 4 (Dolph & Wulff på skørtejagt) the sidekick continues to blabber about pork chops. I haven't seen all of it, so I don't know if Dolph eats any of them. But in one of the other Dolph & Wulff episodes (no. 2, I think), Dolph talks about the importance of eating meat, and eats both a piece of Wiener schnitzel and a bit of cajun cooking. He wants to kill the cook, sure, but I believe that's only because he has been tricked into digesting an edible Negro musician (or something along that line.) In that scene, it looked as if he had no problems eating meat. Remember that editing is open to everybody, and be bold in updating pages --Valentinian 13:17, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
In episode 3 of Wulffmorgenthaler Dolph eats some sausage and Wulff mentions that Dolph usually eats only, I dont know how to translate this, Pinjekerner and Rocculasalat. Pork gives him horrible diarea. And I know that editing is free for all, but I have learned that it pays to check in the talk page if you are not 110% sure that it should be added. 82.192.146.25 14:10, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Pinjekerner = young cones from the pinus tree (basically a snack, like peanuts only healthier), Rucolasalat = Arugula (a type of lettuce). Valentinian (talk) 10:30, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should this page be on English Wiki?[edit]

Does this page belong in the english portion of Wikipedia? A Danish encyclopedia doesn't contain information on Finish childrens tv. It's understandable that Danes consider themselves important to the English portion of the world because the English portion of the world is important to them, but it doesn work that way. Since this show will certainly never air in any other country (expect maybe Norway or Sweden), information regarding it seems to only concern Danes or people who speak Danish. The English wiki shouldn't act as a translated mirror of all other languages' wiki's.

Yes, I believe that it does belong. I personally find most Danish encyclopedias to be very far from comprehensive, including "SDE" (and I've found a number of errors in that book by the way.) Wikipedia has more entries than any other encyclopedia in the world, that's part of the project. The objective with the world's very first encyclopedia was: to present the sum of human knowledge to others.

I just want to say that I regard the fact that the analysis on Dolph is in English as a fortunate one. I almost understand no danish at all, so as I wanted to learn I entered to dr.dk to listen to the radio and practise my danish. I came across with this puffy, sweet-looking blue hippo (looked like a moomin) and I thought it was a character for kids, so I downloaded a few chapters, at first the only character I could understand was Rocco, inmediately I could tell this was no kids show, but I found Dolph´s attitude intriguing. I had a suspicion about his racisicm, because of the way he treated the monkeys, the chapter I saw he hit him with a pot plant. Now, after having read the article and discussion here I understand the point. Thanxs a lot! pd, Im from Argentina, and I´ll do everything on my power to have Dolph broadcasted in here!

With a similar argument; who cares about articles about physics? I don't, but one of my friends does, just to name one. Who cares about articles about Cyprus, the Byzantine Empire and the Renaissance? I do, you might not. The list is endless. The policy seems to be: If it is relevant to somebody, it is probably relevant to Wikipedia. If not, there's rules for killing articles (articles that e.g. describe your own cat or whatever.) It is a declared goal of Wikipedia to be more comprehensive than any other encyclopedia in the world. So Danish encyclopedias are very far from being comprehensive, that's no excuse for Wikipedia to be the same. As we say in Danish: Plejer er død. --Valentinian 22:17, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
A Danish friend has just been explaining Dolph to me so i (naturally) looked him up on wikipedia and was delighted to find this article existed. Now I just need to learn Danish so i can add more :) Jammus 22:32, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The right category[edit]

Its' my opinion that he is not just an animated character, as stated in the category. It is true that he appears in a cartoon strip, but the character was first and foremost developed as minor chareacter for the TV show Wulffmorgthaler, and later stared in his own show, Dolph og Wulff, the following season. In the TV shows he is not anmiated, but is an actor wearing a big blue hippopotamus suit. Please see pictures at official site at the bottom of the article. I do not know what catagory then would be right, but he is not just animated. Angelbo 18:54, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was fixing the IMDb links when I saw this, so I switched it to Category:Television characters. Aitch Eye 19:11, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I'm the one who placed him in the animated character category to begin with, earlier today. I'm working on clearing out the Fictional Characters category, trying to find homes for as many as possible of the articles down the trees of sub-categories. In the end I'm having to judge where to place many articles based solely on the information in the article itself. For Dolph, the initial paragraph mentions a TV show, and mentions a cartoon, so I made the assumption that the TV show was animated, not a Barney style costume. My bad assumption. In the end, though, the goal is to get the articles out of Fictional Characters, and get them where they do belong, so it's a good thing to have people who actually know the material make corrections behind me if I get things wrong. - TexasAndroid 19:21, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also, let me note that the article itself is definitely ambiguous on the subject. Re-reading the intro again as someone who has never seen the character and show, there really is nothing in the article to make me think it is *not* an animated show. It talks about Dolph being "played by" an actor, but voice actors also "play" their parts. It does mention a cartoon, though now reading it I really have no idea what cartoon is being referenced if the show is live action. And while now that I know it's live action I can see that in the photo, when I was here earlier today I thought that the photo showed it being some sort of CGI or stop motion animation. Nothing in the photo by itself screams live action. So in the end, my point is that I would suggest that the intro needs to be made a bit clearer as to what type of TV show he is a character on for the sake of the uninformed reader who happens upon the article. Just a suggestion. - TexasAndroid 19:31, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I accept critisism, and you are right. I will look into rewritning the article intro in the near future, again thanks for your effort in the wiki. Angelbo 19:43, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From a non-Danish speaker[edit]

I too would like to say that I appreciate the article on Dolph being in English. I was first pointed to numerous YouTube videos of him a couple of years ago, and his behavior just completely blew my mind. Reading this article was quite helpful in letting me understand more about him. (He's kinda like a Danish verison of Eric Cartman, isn't he?) --Douglas Muth (talk) 14:07, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
