Restart

I have restarted this article. I note that Durward Street and Henriques Street have articles and their only claim to fame, so far as I can see, is that the Ripper killed there. Similarly with Hanbury Street. It might be a good idea to see if this article can be expanded rather than just nominated for deletion again. If it is genuinely not notable then fine. Thanks for resurrecting this. I created articles for the five canonical Ripper sites shortly after photographing them in 2006, but had no information on their history other than the basic facts of the murders themselves. Hopefully your research will be enough to keep the deletionists at bay. MattHucke(t) 21:30, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I would be

worried if this article continued to exist, as the location no longer does, and the whole of spitalfields was pretty notorious at the time. But that's just me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.86.18.55 (talk) 22:21, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

I suggested deleting it or merging it into Spitalfields last year (the discussion will be in the WP:LONDON archives somewhere), but no-one seemed to like the idea. – iridescent 22:37, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
This is a notable article. A fact from Dorset Street, London appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know? column on 5 April 2008. Colin4C (talk) 07:54, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Dorset Street is to have its own 'biography' published in September 2008 (see article) as 'The Worst Street in London', suggesting strongly that, while Spitalfields as an area was pretty rough, Dorset Street was unique.. How many streets have their own book? --Jack1956 (talk) 15:27, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
I find that editors who think that certain articles are 'non-notable' are mostly generalising their own personal ignorance or lack of interest in the subject. Like when Al Capone confessed that he didn't know what street Canada was on...Colin4C (talk) 17:29, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Map

There's a Dorset Street shown on this 1868 map http://london1868.com/weller46b.htm it does run off Commercial Road (third street in from the righthand side), but the rest of the description doesn't seem to match. David Underdown (talk) 16:37, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Another Dorset Street?

Charles Babbage lived at 1 Dorset Street from 1828 to 1871. He was a very well-to-do man, with a beautiful house and gardens. It seems inconceivable that he lived in the squalid street described in this article. I conclude that there must have been more than one "Dorset Street" at the time. The street that Babbage lived in is in Marylebone...which these days is considered a part of London. Perhaps it was not back then? There is a historical place plaque on the modern building (a hospital) at 1 Dorset Street.

At any rate, because of the notoriety of Babbage, I think we should mention something about this in the article to avoid confusion.

Large unexplained changes

I reverted large unexplained changes to Dorset Street (London) because, while they may very well be an improvement, the loss of inline citations and changed emphasis are in my opinion too great to make without discussion. Editors are also reminded to use edit summaries. -84user (talk) 17:44, 17 April 2012 (UTC) I have since discovered those changes included text almost 100% copied from [1] and therefore the article history now contains a potential copyright violation. I have informed the contributor of this. -84user (talk) 18:16, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
