Appointed by his cousin: any media/opposition commentary?

[edit]

(I asked this question at Talk:Robert Menzies last year but it's had zero response so far.)

Douglas Menzies was appointed to the High Court by his cousin, the Prime Minister, Bob Menzies.

Regardless of the merits of the individual concerned, a PM appointing a close relative to such a high profile post would certainly attract some nepotistic comment these days. Did the press or the Opposition of the time have anything to say about the matter? -- Jack of Oz [Talk] 04:14, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing, apparently. From his ADB article:
  • Sir William Webb retired from the High Court in 1958. The Federal government chose Menzies to fill the vacancy from 12 June. Newspaper reports noted his family connexion with the prime minister, but the appointment occasioned no controversy.
