Non-notable Alums[edit]

Please note that per agreed upon rules of Wikiproject:Schools, alumni must be notable to be included on the Alumni section. This can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Article_guidelines#Alumni, which says

Per Wikipedia:Bio#Lists of people, alumni to be included should meet Wikipedia notability criteria. All alumni meeting these criteria are to be included on an alumni list, regardless of how much time they have spent on a school roll, from one day to several years, and whether or not they graduated.

One person who has been added over and over is Josh Quillen, who is listed as a musician and faculty member. However, he is notable neither as professor (WP:PROF) or as a musician (WP:MUSICBIO). If you feel he should be included, please make your case here instead of reverting edits without explanation.

Also, two other listed alums without Wikipedia articles -- James Black and Monty Hunter -- both meet the notability requirements of Athletes (WP:ATH), specifically

Have appeared in at least one game in any one of the following professional leagues: the Arena Football League, the Canadian Football League, the National Football League, the All-America Football Conference or the United States Football League, or any other top-level professional league.

While they do not have Wikipedia articles, that is more a case of no one writing one yet -- not because they aren't notable. --Dover Historian (talk) 04:32, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're missing the criteria outlined in Creative professionals. Under these criteria, (WP:CREATIVE), specifically "The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory or technique." and "The person has created, or played a major role in co-creating, a significant or well-known work, or collective body of work, that has been the subject of an independent book or feature-length film, or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews," Josh Quillen is clearly "notable" and worth mentioning. The two Dover HS athletes who played at UAkron and SalemC cannot be found in a search of ProQuest or Lexis/Nexis. For just five articles in major newspapers from different years and areas, a fast search of either reveals hundreds of articles, both in newspapers and journals, please see:

I'm not sure that Creative Professionals applies. While Mr. Quillen is undoubtedly creative, I believe that Musician notability requirements trump creative (creative being the blanket requirements for those without more specific ones, e.g. Porn stars, voice actors, &c.). However, I am not the entirety of Wikipedia, and my opinion doesn't hold any particular sway. If you continue to feel Mr. Quillen should be included, please copy the following onto the talk page:
==RfC: Is Josh Quillen relevant== {{rfc|bio|media}} Is Josh Quillen notable? Of current debate is whether he falls under [[WP:MUSICBIO]] or [[WP:CREATIVE]], and, if the latter, does he meet the notability requirements? ~~~~
I will be re-removing Mr. Quillen from the list of alumni. This is not because he isn't notable (which is still for debate), but because you are editing from an anonymous IP and thus cannot watch pages. Combined with delay between our responses, this seems the best way to call your attention to the debate.--Dover Historian (talk) 01:53, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
