Requested move 9 November 2022[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. Wikipedia discussions are not votes. If it was, this would be an easy no consensus close or relist. However, none of the supports have given any reasoning behind their !votes except for a single "per nom", while the opposing side have given strong reasoning behind their !votes, primarily that there is no point disambiguating if Downhauler has no other use. Therefore, I am closing this as not moved. Thanks. (closed by non-admin page mover) echidnaLives - talk - edits 06:54, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DownhaulerDownhauler (album) – Presumably named after the windsurfing accessory? In any case real world rigging, windsurfing and cycling uses of downhauler would be primary, and are in GBooks, not an obscure Rhode Island folk album named after a downhauler. It's an album. • Comment What exactly are we going to do with Downhauler if this gets moved? Redirect to Windsurfing#Equipment? The word "downhauler" isn't even mentioned there, though downhaul is. Create a DAB for the two? I have no idea what the actual popularity for the windsurfing accessory is, so I don't know how to evaluate if there is a PTOPIC here. I'm inclined to agree. We shouldn't be moving this at all unless somebody can commit to a DAB for that. I wouldn't mind making one but I'm not really sure what it would be disambiguating, especially if we don't have any coverage of the word elsewhere. ASUKITE 21:23, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak oppose per above. It seems like unnecessary disambiguation unless we can agree on a valid use for Downhauler. (I guess we can redirect as above, I'm changing this to reflect that my opinion isn't very strong on it.) ASUKITE 21:24, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose no concrete proposal about what should be done instead. Unless there's a valid encyclopedic topic for which "downhauler" is the primary topic, and actually appears somewhere in an article, there's no case to answer.  — Amakuru (talk) 12:26, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Oppose There is no use remaining for Downhauler. Currently it is the only page with such a name. per Amakuru, ASUKITE. >>> Extorc.talk 14:37, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. While I understand the reason for the request - that there are other uses for the word downhauler; at the moment there is no other article which requires the downhauler name, and the only uses of "downhauler" on Wikipedia are in relation to this article. We don't pre-disambiguate. We only disambiguate when there is a need to - when we are likely to mislead or misdirect a reader. In this situation not even a hatnote is appropriate as there is no other use on Wikipedia for the term. At the point where someone writes an article on downhauler as a windsurfing accessory, then we can have a discussion as to which article would be the primary topic, and even then - after doing a quick Google search - the article on a windsurfing accessory might not be primary.
