Splitting of the article

[edit]

I think this article should be splitted into Dragon boat and Tuen Ng / Duan Wu/ Dragon Boat Festival. -- Jerry Crimson Mann 05:55, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I second. Lots of articles redirect here for the holiday, not the sport (the latter being something of a minority activity). A-giau 19:58, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
What should the article title be for the holiday? Please add the suggested split template to the article -- PaulKishimoto 16:40, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would also suggest splitting off a section on the various dragon boat teams into a separate article arranged by geographic location. I'm sure there are thousands of teams out there and this has the potential for getting out of hand.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.83.214.83 (talk) 14:27, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Split declined. Article needs clean up and sourcing before considering creating a new article. I've made a slight reorganisation which reveals that the main aspects of the article are the racing, so the request to split into Dragon boat racing was not appropriate. There is already an article for Duanwu Festival, and I've ensured that the above terms now link to the festival page, and a disambiguation note has been placed on top of this article. Currently Duanwu Festival redirects to Dragon Boat Festival, not the other way around.
It seems some editors forcibly renamed it (despite more opposing votes on the talk page). --Kiyoweap (talk) 19:32, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

American tradition?

[edit]

"Traditional Paddled Long Boats found throughout Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands"

Weren't there also traditional paddled longboats in the Pacific Northwest? --Eliyahu S Talk 13:13, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What about the boat?

[edit]

There seems to be a big hole in this page as there is nothing about specifications, how are they built, regional differences in the boats, where to buy, materials used, technical diagrams, decorations used - there is prety much nothing about the boat. Good luck. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.33.171.10 (talk) 11:21, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orlando Dragon Boat Festival

[edit]

The article should reflect the recent move of this festival to another site off the premise of Disney Land:

Who Governs Dragon Boats Racing? International Dragon Boat Federation or International Canoe Federation

[edit]

According to the the article, it states that Dragon Boat racing is governed by the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) and that the World Championships will be held in Adelaide, Australia, in 2016 (although it does not state any specific date or provide any citations), however, I have found information that states that Dragon Boat racing is governed by the International Canoe Federation (ICF) (See Here) and that the World Championships are to be held between the 8-11 September 2016 in Moscow, Russia (See Here). There is no mention of the ICF in this article and I am wondering why? Can someone please clarify this for me? I do not doubt the article about the IDBF but I have not heard of them before and I know of the ICF because of their relationship with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and their events in the Olympics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8084:2860:3A80:B587:8473:9A71:AC6D (talk) 19:14, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that it is one of those sports that due to greedy people have multiple umbrella organizations and thus multiple World Championships. 213.149.61.188 (talk) 09:04, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

To add to article: mention of the brocade cloth/flag that is grabbed by the winner in a traditional Chinese dragon boat race. 66.61.82.12 (talk) 01:34, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Greek?
