Dubinushka redirects to The Song of the Volga Boatmen, but I think there are two different songs, with different melodies and different words. A stub article that links instead of just redirecting, even if it is practically identical to this talk page, would be more useful.

I've heard both songs played on the piano from A_Russian_Song_Book, Rubin, Rose N. and Stillman, Michael. Random House 1962 Dubinushka is on p. 11; The Song of the Volga Boatmen is on p. 93. I've heard both on the Web.

My Russian is extremely limited, however, the Russian Wikipedia article "Dubinushka":

http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%94%D1%83%D0%B1%D0%B8%D0%BD%D1%83%D1%88%D0%BA%D0%B0

begins:

«Дуби́нушка» — название двух русских песен, русской народной и написанной на её основе революционной.

Google translates this as:

"Dubinushka" - the name of two Russian folk songs, Russian folk, and written on the basis of a revolutionary.

I suspect this would better be translated as:

"Dubinushka" is the name of two Russian songs: a Russian folksong, and a song written for revolutionary purposes.

Sound recording of the folksong, which is "The Song of the Volga Boatmen", from the Russian Wikipedia:

http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A4%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BB:Russkaja_armija_v_vatikane_12_ej_uhnem.ogg

Sound recording of the revolutionary song "Dubinushka" (also called "Dubinuska" in the Songbook) from the Russian Wikipedia:

http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A4%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BB:%D0%94%D1%83%D0%B1%D0%B8%D0%BD%D1%83%D1%88%D0%BA%D0%B0_-_%D0%A4%D1%91%D0%B4%D0%BE%D1%80_%D0%A8%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%8F%D0%BF%D0%B8%D0%BD.ogg

The audio files linked to by the wikipedia page for The Song of the Volga Boatmen are the correct song based on my references.

another reference:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqyQG6ufPLI Dubinushka perhaps presented as a demonstration of some music software.

Based on my rather limited personal knowledge, it may be usual in English to call the folksong "The Song of the Volga Boatmen" and to call the revolutionary song "Dubinuska". The songbook and several YouTube videos conform to this usage.

If someone with more experience editing Wikipedia and more knowledge of Russian could make a stub page for Dubinushka it would be helpful.
