Name?

@Inchiquin: I'm wondering where the name of this article came from. I can't find it in any book, nor in any web source that predates this article. I do see lots of books referring to it as a disaster in various words, just not these words. None of the cited sources call it this. Any info from the creator of the article (which was also before he understood that we use sentence case for headings and titles, but I fixed that already)? I added "Great Explosion" in caps, but I think I was misled by a book title; most sources that call it "great explosion" in the text do so generically in lowercase, so perhaps I'll go back on that. Hi Dicklyon- sorry about the delay in my response.
Feel free to change the name of the article. I remember I had a bit of trouble working out what to call this one, as although the event was of :significance for Dublin, it has not been widely written about (as with, say, the Great Fire of London) and so no name has really entered popular currency. (I have noticed some websites with articles on this have popped up over the past three years, though I suspect they may have been influenced by the Wiki article. That article on the Tudor blog, for example, was written several months after the Wiki article...though it may not be immediately obvious as someone has subsequently listed it as a source for the Wiki article!)
'Great Explosion' seems to be one of the most common names in the sources, the only problem I have with that name is that today that name doesn't really do much to distinguish the event from the countless similar events around the world over the centuries. 'Great Explosion of 1597' or 'Great Explosion of Dublin' might be a bit better as it gives a bit of a sense of the time/place of the event. Inchiquin (talk) 09:34, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I dare say the Tudor Blog account is more stylish and intelligent than this article, and takes pains to source the facts. Shtove (talk) 15:24, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In honesty I think that, on the basis of the available sources (like Lennon (1988), Lennon (1995), and that Blogpost (2012)) it seems entirely reasonable to suggest that "Dublin gunpowder disaster" is a term only really used on this project. Where, perhaps, something like "Dublin gunpowder explosion" would be a more appropriate title. Certainly better/closer than what we have today (albeit perhaps not perfect). Agreed, but changing the title of the article requires redirection. Shtove (talk) 21:04, 4 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Shtove. Thanks for your note. Before I move the title, can you expand a little on what you mean by "requires redirection". What will require redirection? (Apologies if I'm misunderstanding. But, updating any redirects is a common and often relatively trivial activity required after any move....) Guliolopez (talk) 19:02, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry - I meant the page would have to be moved, ie. it's not just a question of editing the title. Got mixed up with redirection. Shtove (talk) 22:18, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Resolved. Given that there was general consensus that the subject is typically referred to (in the sources and common use) as "explosion" rather than "disaster", and with no other/better/apparent COMMONNAME being proposed, I've gone ahead and moved it from Dublin gunpowder disaster to Dublin gunpowder explosion. Closing thread. Guliolopez (talk) 21:16, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
