Nationality

[edit]

His nationality has been continuously changed from South African to Scottish over the last few days. As far as I'm aware he has South African nationality and qualifies to play for Scotland due to long-term residency in the country, should a message be placed in the lead section to reflect this? "Scottish rugby player" is incorrect, he's a South African rugby player. 2A00:23C5:F00C:1E01:9080:1A13:9FF4:E1D (talk) 00:06, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
His nationality has also been changed to “South African and Scottish,” which is incorrect, as mentioned before his nationality is South African but he qualified to play for Scotland based on a 3 year residency. I have reverted it back to “South African.” Zaphod4273 (talk) 15:48, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please stop edit warring on this. His notability is as a rugby player, and he represents Scotland. Therefore regardless of his nationality, he should be described in the lead as what he is notable for, which is as a rugby player who plays for Scotland. Fortunately, there is guidance on this. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Rugby_union/Style, esp the section titled Nationality on Player Biographies. Let's follow the WikiProject rugby union guidance here, and avoid the edit warring. CUA 27 (talk) 13:03, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
