Dulcie Dreamer is an actor or an actress? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.22.94.90 (talk) 06:02, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Misplaced stats/factoids[edit]

Dulce has its own page, and Dulce Maria is twice removed from Dulcie and redirects to a Mexican performer. So why should their popularity numbers be placed here? They have to go, unless some reasonable rationale is enunciated. Clarityfiend (talk) 11:44, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

These are articles about the history and usage iof names, including variants. Generally, I think it would be preferable to have a single main article, titled with the standard form in English, that includes a list of all the variants in other languages. Wikipedia instead has single articles about every possible spelling variant. One main article with extensive detail, history, stats, etc., referring to stub articles about foreign variants is fairly standard in published encyclopedias. The stats belong in this article. They are related to the topic and they are cited. Bookworm857158367 (talk) 12:16, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What you want is contrary to the consensus. There is absolutely no justification for Dulce Maria here, and as I stated before, Dulce has its own page. If you want to propose merging the variants, try that first before trying to impose your own views here. Clarityfiend (talk) 12:27, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dulce and Dulce Maria are variants of the name Dulcie. All are related. There is also existing precedent with other name articles like William. An article about the history and usage of a name appropriately contains information like the stats about all. I object to the removal of cited material. There is no precedent. William lists variants, not stats on those variants, and it doesn't list second-hand variants on variants. Clarityfiend (talk) 12:43, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the two articles you are discussing, neither Dulce or Dulce Maria has a name article page. Dulce Maria is about a performer; Dulce is simply a disambiguation page. Dulcie is the main name article because it is the main form of the name in English. Actually, someone could choose to write a separate article about either name but thus far have not. Many of the name articles do include lists of people with the different variants of a particular name. If this one doesn’t already, it could add people named Dulce or Dulce Maria as well as Dulcie. In any event, I still object to your removal of those stats. If someone would like to expand the Dulcie article to include the list of Dulces and Dulce Marias, that could be done. Are you deliberately being difficult?
  • I, as I have already said, have no objection to variants being listed on name pages—why would I? Stats about those variants are another story.
  • Dulce lists people of that name, hence is a de facto name page. Dulce Maria may or may not merit a separate article/list, but as of now, it has a very tenuous connection to this page, as I have stated before. Albert Einstein's high school teacher has just as significant a connection to the physicist as that name to Dulcie.
  • Nobody's stopping you from creating Dulce (given name) and/or Dulce Maria (given name). Until then, you still don't have a leg to stand on. You don't even include stats about Dulcie! Clarityfiend (talk) 13:10, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dulce is a Spanish variant of Dulcie; Dulcie Maria is an extension of the name and one of many Titles of Mary used in Spanish culture. All relate back to the history and usage of the related English name Dulcie, which right now is at Dulcie. Dulce is right now a disambiguation page, not a name article. As far as stats go, Dulce ranks among the top 1,000 names in the U.S. and Dulcie does not. There were 360 American girls called Dulce last year compared with just five American girls called Dulcie. The Spanish variant is currently in style, probably with Spanish speaking parents, and the English variant is not. I included stats for the name variants in the top 1,000. I do continue to object to your removal of cited material that is related to the subject. Bookworm857158367 (talk) 13:20, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Your unilateral action while a discussion is underway is considered rude (also ungrammatical in spots). I have split off both variants into their own articles. Now go away and waste somebody else's time. Clarityfiend (talk) 12:28, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And what would you call your comment above and your action, here? Name articles properly include the etymology of the names, which should be added to the two additional articles you have created if you think they should be separate articles. They all have the same etymology as Dulcie. Bookworm857158367 (talk) 14:51, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
