Dungloe GAA → C.L.G. An Clochán Liath –
- Official name, per page content, crest, facebook page, casual mentions, etc. 86.40.107.14 (talk) 01:44, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- Comment – recent edits to change the name in the article have left the lead sentence incompatible with the cited source. No cited source supports the new name proposal, as far as I can tell. The article needs to be fixed whether or not a name change is considered. Dicklyon (talk) 06:58, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- And the above is what? It's the official name of the club in the Donegal Gaeltacht's largest town. The sources provided above are consistent with that. It's like having the New York Giants at "New York American football team" or something. --86.40.100.241 (talk) 20:02, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- This is not a topic I know anything about; and the article is not helping. I'm saying that if some sources were cited that had the name you propose changing to, it would be a lot easier to consider. As it stands, the sources mention Dungloe, but not the Irish name; or show me if I missed it. Dicklyon (talk) 05:51, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Comment[changed to oppose below] - An Clochán Liath redirects to Dungloe but fair enough, town and its team can be in different languages. However I notice that here in en.wp some counties have all teams as English spelling "GAA" (Gaelic Athletic Association), while some counties like Category:Gaelic football clubs in County Donegal are predominantly in Irish spelling "C.L.G." Cumann Lúthchleas Gael. Is there some guideline somewhere on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Gaelic games which specifies on using English "GAA" or Gaelic "CLG"? - I've restored both languages in lede and infobox. User 86.40.107.14 the reason the infobox has two lines | club gaa = Dungloe GAA | irish = C.L.G. An Clochán Liath is to represent both languages. Your change to double-Irish and deleting all English per | club gaa = An Clochán Liath | irish = C.L.G. An Clochán Liath goes against the infobox format. In ictu oculi (talk) 01:14, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- It would have something to do with Gaeltacht areas. If it was in a region that isn't a Gaeltacht it would likely be in English. CLG Naomh Anna, Leitir Móir, for example, is in Galway, not Donegal. Gaeil Colmcille CLG is in Meath. An Clochán Liath is based in Donegal's largest Gaeltacht town, so logically it should more than follow suit. --86.40.100.241 (talk) 04:59, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- In Dublin you have Clann Mhuíre, Craobh Chiaráin, Cuala, Naomh Barróg, Naomh Maur, Naomh Mearnóg, Naomh Ólaf, Scoil Uí Chonaill to name a few (I don't know how you can suggest that An Clochán Liath is any less of a Gaeltacht than some of those), so your implication that the Donegal teams are somehow different from the other counties is incorrect. Even if they were different the county is slap bang in the middle of a Gaeltacht region after all. For example, I cannot recall Naomh Conaill being anglicized. I don't even know what the translation would be. It is known as Naomh Conaill in English. --86.40.100.241 (talk) 05:22, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for comments but regret now Oppose on procedural grounds - for changing text (again) contrary to BBC, sources as DickLyon noted, and also deleting other sources from article in support of what is an unsourced name. You were getting the benefit of good faith, you just threw that back in other editors' faces. I have reverted article to status and restored Donegal Democrat article. You are welcome to add printed sources in favour of your RM proposal. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:46, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- As explained in the edit summary, that was because it refers to it in the context of a headline and awards which could be any combination of location and sport, for example it could just as easily have said "Buncrana soccer", "Belfast ice hockey". Sources in favour of this proposal have been here since the start. This is like having Naomh Conaill at Glenties or Aodh Ruadh at Ballyshannon, it talks about the nearest town, not the club. --86.40.110.128 (talk) 18:07, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Restored (again). The next time you delete sourced material in support of your RM I will be applying for a page protect against IP edits. In ictu oculi (talk) 01:38, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
