Following discussion at WT:Disambiguation, this page has been convertd to a brief article as it was never a true dab page. PamD (talk) 14:06, 21 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dunkeld-Birnam[edit]

Is this page meant to be distinguished from Dunkeld-Birnam? If so, it should explain why. If not, I suggest a merger. Robin Patterson (talk) 06:51, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

The result of this discussion was to merge. Jellyman (talk) 14:52, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am proposing to merge both the Dunkeld and Birnam, Perth and Kinross articles into Dunkeld and Birnam. At present we have fairly short articles on both places and also what is currently a somewhat superfluous stub mentioning them both as a single entity. Geographically, the two are separated only by the river, they share a railway station and are classed as a single settlement / locality for census purposes, as per this list. By merging the separate articles into the combined one we can present a more complete picture of the settlement rather than splitting it over three articles, ony two of which are currently much use. Jellyman (talk) 09:28, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

As there was no response to my proposal, I have gone ahead with the merge. Jellyman (talk) 14:49, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request that the merger of Dunkeld & Birnam is removed[edit]

As residents of the ancient Highland town of Dunkeld we request that the merger between Dunkeld and Birnam be removed and returned to the original format. These two communities, although closely connected in many respects, are separated by a great deal more than a river. Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cafeangel (talkcontribs) 09:17, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Uncited material (lloks like advertising)[edit]

I've removed "The Hilton Dunkeld House & Country Club is based on a summer house built by George Murray, 6th Duke of Atholl. The author Beatrix Potter spent a lot of time writing there" as uncited and looking like simply an advert for an hotel. Grinner (talk) 14:10, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've also removed "from the town or from a roadside point about 500 m south-east of the Lowes visitor centre, it is possible to reach a 317-metre high point, Newtyle Hill, 2 km to the east of the town, via a series of tracks and paths that lead to a location (NO046420) 400 m west of the summit (NO050419). But to reach this location, a high gate must be scaled, and the summit area is rough, devoid of paths and defended by wild heather" as this is more appropriate for a walking guide than an encylcopedia.Grinner (talk) 10:43, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Split proposal[edit]

I suggest splitting Dunkeld (and possibly Birnam) back to separate articles and keeping this one primarily for the census locality. There appeared to be consensus for this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Scotland/Archive 13#Dunkeld and Birnam, pinging those who contributed there @Deacon of Pndapetzim, Jellyman, Donama, Nilfanion, and Catfish Jim and the soapdish:. Note that Birnam appears to be in the parish of Little Dunkeld (Dunkeld is/was part of Dunkeld and Dowally[1]) so perhaps that could be covered there if an article is created on the parish and Birnam isn't notable enough. I would also support splitting Blairgowrie and Rattray since although they were 1 burgh (previously 2[2][3]) they are/were separate parishes[4][5] but care would need to be taken to ensure we don't content fork. Shaw and Crompton appears to be a bit different in that it was never a parish but rather in Crompton parish that was later renamed to Shaw and Crompton. • Support reinstatement of Dunkeld article in view of its long history, cathedral, bishop, etc. --Wire723 (talk) 11:12, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support This shouldn't be very contentious, it's just a matter of getting someone to actually re-separate the two articles. Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 18:17, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Yes. Wikipedia isn't just for today but all time. Donama (talk) 02:01, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have de-merged Dunkeld. Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 12:48, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Deacon of Pndapetzim: thankyou for splitting them out again but the article (and its history) of Dunkeld and Birnam has disappeared after you're history merge. While it wasn't clear if we were keeping all 3 articles at least the history of "Dunkeld and Birnam" should remain. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:01, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I see what you are saying, I understood that the Dunkeld and Birnam article was really just the Dunkeld article with a different name, simply because the Dunkeld article redirected there and the latter is clearly primary. Is 'Dunkeld and Birnam' of any independent encyclopedic value? Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 13:44, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The "Dunkeld and Birnam" was about the census locality but it might just make sense to keep it as a redirect to Dunkeld though. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:14, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
