Hamish Cameron-Smith was married to my mother's sister. Hamish was in a hospital after the war and that's where he met her. She was a nurse back then.

Hamish designed several houses in South Africa, one he designed for my Dad who then built it. The very first house Hamish designed is still owned and occupied by a family in Pietermaritzburg South Africa and I had the pleasure of seeing it. Hamish designed a ventilation system inside the exterior walls which you could open/close with a lever from inside the house. Exterior walls were built as cavity walls with brick. Bricks and roofing tiles ( Marsailes brick tile) were supplied by Coronation Brick and Tile. No one had airconditioning in those early days and the ventilation system worked very well.

Hamish & family moved to Ndola where he continued as an architect. Hamish passed away several years ago and is survived by his wife (my aunt) and his children. They did a lot of charity work for the less fortunate and helped maintain a hospital/clinic for the blind. I have a photo of the original reconstructed chapel. -- comment by 129.41.205.101.
