Duppy

[edit]

The transport of slaves from West Africa is well documented. The conditions may have changed from the establishment of trade right up to abolishment. The term Duppy could be someone transported that is in someway damaged, mentally or physically. And I am wondering if conditions got so bad, to survive you had to move into another state. This ability to enter suspended animation, or hibernating is not unknown in other cultures. Indeed it may have resulted in creating those of a zombified state or 'Duppy.' It is better not to dwell on humans thrown into a hold the way grain is transported, no food or water, those held like a can of sardines survive by becoming Duppies. A friend of the family tells me 'The worst slaves lef a Jamaica.' Zombies may not have been the most productive of workers, most of which would be at best brain damaged, long term physical damage and left to fend for themselves in Jamaica. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.211.13.173 (talk) 22:45, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
