List of former notable players

[edit]

I am thinking (as the tag suggests) that this section should be cut down a bit, right now I personally think it might be worth removing Dean Jones, Martin Love, Simon Brown, Graeme Fowler, Wayne Larkins and Gary Pratt as a start, because all these players seem to me to be not particularly notable (perhaps for the club but for the average reader?). Cheers. Ainsworth74 (talk) 22:31, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If no one objects in the next few days I am going to remove the above players, the list is far to long and these would seem as good a place as any to start cutting it down. Ainsworth74 (talk) 19:53, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see the point. The list only includes 17 former notable players, all of whom were internationals. Why remove any? Dposte46 (talk) 20:23, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Because some really aren't all that notable, Brown for instance played one test, Pratt hasn't played in any international matches. Are players like this really notable? I suppose the main thing is, as the tag says there are no clear inclusion criteria, so how should we define them so we can remove the tag and continue improving the article? Ainsworth74 (talk) 16:28, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why not introduce the simple criterion that previous notable players should be ex-internationals? That doesn't necessarily mean that every international who played for Durham should be included. It seems to me though, that people like Graham Fowler and Wayne Larkins were quite important figures in the early days when Durham became a first-class county and deserve inclusion for that. Matches at The Racecourse

[edit]

Durham is listed as having hosted 14 first class matches at The Racecourse over the period 1992–2011. However, although Durham have played 14 matches there, it was only the home team for seven County Championship matches and one match against the Australian tourists in 1992–1994; for the six matches in 2003–2011 it was the visiting team playing Durham University. These should probably not be counted as 'hosted' by Durham. Robminchin (talk) 04:42, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
