Proposed move to "E8 theory"[edit]

At Talk:An_Exceptionally_Simple_Theory_of_Everything#Requested_move some editors apparently not acquainted with E8 in other contexts are proposing to move that article to "E8 theory", which I feel would be ambiguous and giving Garrett Lisi's theory excessive weight. Please come and help discuss this. --JWB (talk) 03:54, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your feeling is shared by many people, especially physicists. The use of E8 as a unification group in grand unified theories in Physics has a long history, dating at least as back as 1979 and 1980 with the pionneering papers of Baaklini (Physics Letters B 91, 376 (1980)) and Bars & Gunaydin (Physics Review Letters 45, 859 (1980)), and later with the E8*E8 theory of Schwartz and Witten. Discussions on E8 omitting to refer the work of those Physicists do not add the proper scientific weight to the fora concerned.(212.251.82.178 (talk) 10:22, 1 December 2010 (UTC))[reply]
