Hobbyist ownership?

[edit]

I have a friend who bought one of these used from a university, and as far as I can tell, the idea of free support is a laughable concept to Unisys. What is the lowest-cost support contract for one of these beasts? Since a basic 4-CPU 2.0 ghz Xeon Cell motherboard costs around $35,000 and the rest of the surrounding hardware appears to bring the "base cost" up to around $100,000, I would expect the service contract is also at least $10,000, if not $50,000 or more.

Is it in fact possible to directly boot the Cell processors without the Server Sentinel management system? It doesn't look like that is a freely downloadable software package, even if the Server Sentinel is basically a device driver. The Cell system processors may be designed to be incredibly powerful, but it appears to be headless without a normal VGA or keyboard connector.
