Badge

The club badge appearing on this site is the old one. A new, very similar one, has been released incorporating Kingfisher-a sponsor, into the badge and removing the words calcutta..

Please change the players name format.

Kit colours

Would someone PLEASE change the kit from black to the famous red and gold. I am inexperienced and do not understand nor know the colour codes.

I would prefer opinions from all fans and others who visit here on whether the home or the away colours are looking better and brighter and "truer". Please note that the right-arm sleeve's gold band colour would need to be rectified a bit too. Could your opinions come in here by the end of this month (Sep 2006) please ? You may leave your name with your preference of home or away colours, and any other comments you would like to make. Thanks, in advance. --ǽ 15:34, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Edited a bit, like the fr:East Bengal Club and de:East Bengal Club. I am not sure about the away colours.
Minor details if any may can be ignored. There is a white band in between arm sleeves and the body. Their socks are patterned in two parts too. Its not easy to include all minute details. Remember, it is not supposed to be an accurate drawing of the kit(Template_talk:Football_kit#Creating_a_new_pattern). --Victor D PARLE 04:26, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Recent squad updates

I've updated the Coach's name in the infobox from de Ridder to Pareira. Someone please update the squad since there has been changes like Baichung Bhutia. --Victor D PARLE 22:23, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

There seems to be some discrepancies in the squad list posted here, and on the comment just below (unsigned), and on the official site. Why are M Suresh and Luis De'Souza missing? What is the status with Raju Singh and Mohd. Mukhtar? Anybody to clarify please?

Honors

In this section under international segment it is written "International- AFC Cup- Semifinalist 2012-13". Well generally in this section we get to see the trophy that particular club has collected..so reaching semifinal is not a trophy infact in the East Bengal club's official website(http://eastbengalfootballclub.com/trophy.php) it not there in the trophy room section. So according to me it should not be out there in the honor section. If i am wrong please correct me with proper logic.Souvickchatterjee (talk) 18:43, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Infobox and Leading Paragraph

The intro paragraph is poorly written with no care given to the data accuracy. I have tried to fix the same and have corrected & rewrote part of the section. Please do not change this without justifiable reasons.

  1. The name of the club is East Bengal Football Club, shortened to East Bengal FC. Do NOT change it to East Bengal in the Infobox.
  2. Current Season for the club is 2014–15 East Bengal F.C. season. Updated in the Infobox. Do not change that back to 2013-14 season, which is over.
  3. Full name is Kingfisher East Bengal Football Club. Updated in the Infobox. Do not change this. You may check the official site of the club to check this out.
  4. East Bengal are yet to win an I-League title. All the 3 were won in the days of the NFL.
  5. Removing KickoffIndia link as it redirects to a porn site.
  6. East Bengal and Dempo share the longest uninterrupted streak in the top-tier of Indian football - NFL and I-League. Mohun Bagan was NOT a part of the first NFL proper. Do NOT change this sentence again.
  7. Indian Super Cup has been discontinued after 2011. So, no point of adding that.
  8. Asian Theatre: ASEAN Cup is/was NOT an AFC competition and as such CANNOT be considered as a continental trophy. The best performance of East Bengal in the continental championship has been achieved last year, when it reached the Semi finals of the AFC Cup.
  9. Jorabagan and other such stuffs are covered under the history and there's no need to mention them in the intro section.

Hi,

I am a Life Member of East Bengal Club (Membership Number - L1352). While browsing the Wikipedia page of our club, I notice some miscreants have altered the name of the club in Bengali script and made it sound very derogatory. Please remove this immediately and block the Id which has made these changes, or give me privileged to rectify the page.

Hoping for an immediate response.

Suggestion for improving

ArnabSaha, I think you are trying to improve the article may be for GA.

Here are some suggestions if you want to see the article in good shape. The lead seems meager, it needs more summarised information. Covert the First subsection into prose, it looks utterly bizzare. 1980 to 2010s need lot of improvement, seems hollow. I have removed excessive materials from the stadium section, precisely the other ground. But the main stadiums speak very less of the club, try to improve that. Avoid deprecated source, and don't cite a source more 3-4 times. Add additional citations. Remove shouting in the reference titles. Try to avoid P-hacking, I have seen some, removed them along with exaggerated datas, like runners up and all. The statistics article is for that purpose only. Along with that I would suggest to go through WP:MOS, if you have not gone through, because I can see a lot of issues specially the tables. And before everything go through FA articles like Manchester City F.C., Aston Villa F.C., Arsenal F.C., Chelsea F.C., FC Barcelona to take a best idea about how to make the article a good one. You can ping me for any help for the improvement. However, I'll keep an eye though. Drat8sub (talk) 22:59, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Just an FYI, I recommend looking to Cardiff City F.C. as an FA article to go off of since that was the most recent club article to be made FA. A lot of of the ones above have been for years but have been edited far from what they were when nominated. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 01:21, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
ArsenalFan700, Drat8sub thanks a lot for helping. currently, I am referring to FC Bayern Munich. ❯❯❯ S A H A 06:42, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
Hello Arnab, do you understand why we have suggested those articles, because those are FAs, Bayern's article is a GA, nothing wrong in referring that but best will be following a FA which is our ultimate goal here and a recent one as Arsenalfan suggested the Cardiff City article. And that minor titles need no mention here, there is nothing to keep from that part, it will destroy the structure that you are hoping to see. And another thing I want to point out, the record section that is existing now is not healthy at all, keep it simple, it has 3 table and repetetive datas. Either delete it, which would be my preference if I would be thinking nomination since it will never overcome stability, an important parameter for a GA/FA, or place in a single table mentioning the national and continental record, no need to mention any other extra cups and tournament. Drat8sub (talk) 13:57, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
Exactly. Like, the Manchester City article was promoted in 2006 and hasn't been reviewed since 2009. That doesn't mean it isn't good but that over the last 11 years, a lot of edits have been made and additions that are probably not supposed to be on a featured article were probably kept. Cardiff City was promoted last year and is the perfect article to go off of. Just because some clubs are among the best, doesn't mean they have the best wikipedia article. That is why I try to incorporate stuff from Major League Soccer and the A-League since while they are not the best leagues in the world, they have some of the most detailed and looked after pages in football wikipedia. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 20:09, 9 June 2020 (UTC)
Well Arsenalfan, that is the most common mistake I have seen in many users, not totally their fault ofcorse. Because the welcome note or five pillar page does not actually talk much about the FA and GA. So, a lot of users actually think established club articles are the best articles, considering wikipedia similar to club website. However the five pillars page clearly mentions what's an encyclopedia is, what are the requirement. Anyway, exactly that's what I was saying, Arnab, best is to follow FA and better than Bayern's page it would be even better if you have a look at Ipswich Town F.C., where the record and statistics section written in prose, that is what a good article demands actually. And Arsenalfan there is one thing that need to be focused, why we don't see much changes in the existing FA articles, it's due to the very fact that FA articles are stable articles, these are written in such a way that there needs minimal updates and hardly anything will exists in the article which is suceptible to change frequently, like the format of record section in this article and for the same reason Manchester city article did not have any major changes in structure. So Arnab give importance to the stability and prose. Drat8sub (talk) 00:49, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
Drat8sub, runners-up data is present in Cardiff City F.C. ❯❯❯ S A H A 08:32, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
It was our suggestion to refer, not to copy, and to use logic. Cardiff city does not have rich history of winning championship, so for the record section it has been kept. Like if we consider Kerala Blasters or say Northeast united we may need to add runners up or 3rd position. But East Bengal have a rich history of winning championship and various cups, no need of mentioning runners-up, no one actually bother for that. And most FAs don't have runners up. It's absolutely not required. Drat8sub (talk) 15:58, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
Drat8sub, ok ❯❯❯ S A H A 19:55, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

deletion

@Drat8sub: wait and dont revert. i will work on them and modify them. thats why I have placed the {{under construction}} template. wait for a day. ging through the FA articles and summarizing the whole takes time. ❯❯❯ S A H A 14:21, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Sure, go on. Bdw, you have added a citation recently. kindly check if it is correctly done or not (publisher google.com), does not seem correct to me. And kindly go trhough the WP:MOS and WP:RS. Drat8sub (talk) 00:53, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
ArnabSaha, want to let you know that, I've hidden the whole management hierarchy, totally unsourced content, and the added link is a rotten link. So, re-add the section if you have a source (only RS), because I don't get any. So let me know, if you also fail to get any, we have to delete the section. And secondly, please merge the national and continental records. And is there any free image of EB winning trophies/winning team or nothing exists? Drat8sub (talk) 05:13, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
Drat8sub, then we have to wait till quess leaves. since the new website will be launched after that. till then, management and technical staff should be kept hidden or visible using the old website link. also, regarding the international trophies, no other Indian clubs have achieved the same. so, it should be kept. its not something common here, unlike the european clubs. ❯❯❯ S A H A 07:08, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

I am not asking that, I know it's 76 24. Was asking whether it's mentioned, these citations were added by me only, when I added, they did not had those informations. See goal.com, it was cetainly updated after my addition, I added it on 1 Oct and it's last update too showing 1 Oct. When I added, it did not have that info. I read by lines always, no way it can miss my eyes. So, I was confident without seeing. Anyway, any news on new name?? They already sent to AFC, right? Drat8sub (talk) 18:20, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

East Bengal ClubEast Bengal FC – Suggesting this move as per the actual official website and official twitter handle of the club. Linking a reliable source here. An article should match the current information about its topic rather than sticking to the old information. — AKSHADĒV™ 💬 05:35, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

  • Oppose this is a general article for the sports club, not a specific article for the football club, as evidenced in the first sentence of this article: East Bengal Club... is an Indian professional multi-sports club based in Kolkata, West Bengal. Whether the football content should be split into a separate article East Bengal FC is a different issue, but not in the scope of this RM. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:04, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
The evidence is indeed in the first sentence, pay attention, “East Bengal Football Club (EBFC) is an Indian professional multi-sports club based in Kolkata, West Bengal”. The article itself refers to EBFC! And I'm very well aware of the fact that EBFC is a multi-sports club but it's official name is East Bengal Football Club not East Bengal Club. — AKSHADĒV™ 💬 14:51, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
The football club is not the whole sports club. I have fixed the first line of text. This RM is aiming to usurp the other sections of the club, it has provided 0 actual sources that the whole sports club is known as "football club", as all the links are to the football club. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:56, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
The infobox, the history section and all the other sections have content that mostly focuses on football. The parent organisation needs a separate article because this one is all about football. Your opposition is unreasonable. — AKSHADĒV™ 💬 15:15, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
That is because it's been taken over by the football editors. A separate article for the football club may be needed (I think it probably is), but moving this article, which has clear sections about all parts of the sport club, is inappropriate. A WP:SPLIT would be the correct way to do it, a move and disregarding of the other sports in this club is not. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:22, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
The infobox should be fixed to be about the sports club, the first line should be fixed (like I tried to, but you reverted, because of your insistence that this is an article about the football club, despite the fact it references its other sports too), and the history should be moved to an article about the sports club in general. People demanding it's a football-only article are making it that way, but the article is really about a multi sports club, that needs less information and bias towards the football team. Joseph2302 (talk) 15:28, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
Now I understand, but I'm not bias towards football, I like many other sports such as cricket, tennis, badminton, field hockey and many more. Football is just one of them. I request to you and every other experienced editors that if I don't get anything right away, don't judge me, please! It hurts a lot. I'm not like others :) Peace! — AKSHADĒV™ 💬 16:01, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
