Merger proposal[edit]

A new article has been started for Coley, Somerset. As this is a small hamlet within the parish of East Harptree and unlikely to have enough content to make a substantial article, I propose that it be merged into this article.— Rod talk 08:57, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Weak oppose: I guess that if hamlets still have a name to them; then they have their own importance but if Coley has no importance whatsoever (not even a post box!) then I will support but I'll have a look into it first. Regards Jaguar (talk) 18:22, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Support: Coley has a population of about 100 and that does make it somewhat notable for its own article, however the article itself is in question. It is only four sentences long and does not contain any places of interest nor does it have any other information so it might be better off being merged. Jaguar (talk) 18:27, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I live in East Harptree and Coley is considerably closer to Litton, so if the place should end up merging it should merge with Litton. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lovepickle (talkcontribs) 15:37, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I suggested merging with East Harptree is because that is the parish it falls within and therefore population and other published data relates to the parish.— Rod talk 16:31, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I have now merged to East Harptree, but Coley could be mentioned in the Litton, Somerset article if that would be useful to readers.— Rod talk 18:46, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Monument of Sir John Newton[edit]

I visited the church of St. Lawrence, East Harptree on 28 August 2016, and saw there the monument to Sir John Newton. The canopy is very much intact, despite what the caption on this page states. I'm happy to provide photographic reference, and to upload a picture I took of the monument to this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.101.1.119 (talk) 14:39, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment. If you could upload the photo, perhaps under a suitable licence via the upload wizard at Commons, that would be really helpful.— Rod talk 15:00, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry it took me so long. Here's my own photo of the monument in question:

Newton Tomb, Church of St. Laurence, East Harptree

and there's the supposedly missing canopy - unless I don't understand what a canopy is in this context. Blahrfengar (talk) 03:47, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I've revised Church of St Laurence, East Harptree but I don't see the comment about the canopy in this article.— Rod talk 08:13, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Rod. On the East Harptree page, the monument with the caption mentioning that the canopy was destroyed is in kind of a set-in picture that shows up atthe right hand side of the "Governance" section. Blahrfengar (talk) 15:17, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - got it now. You can always make these changes yourself.— Rod talk 17:47, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much. I'm happy to do so. I'm kind of a newbie, so appreciate your patience. Is there any reason not to swap out that old drawing of the monument with my picture? I probably even have a better one than the example. Blahrfengar (talk) 03:07, 26 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any problem with that - best to use the edit summary to explain modern photo or something similar.— Rod talk 08:34, 26 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
