Question for Administrators[edit]

The 'translation quirks' section doesn't seem to meet the requirements for citations or a neutral point of view for a page on a living person. I can't find another similar section on a translator in Wikipedia to use as an example. Since it was originally added by an anonymous user, and then added again by (another?) anonymous user, I'm not sure how to resolve any dispute and I don't want to engage in a delete/re-add activity unnecessarily. "get ahold of" is fine. I can see no reason, other than personal preference, for preferring "get hold of".

The relevant rule is WP:UNDUE, a part of the policy about neutral point of view. Unless reliable sources have discussed the so-called quirk there is no good reason to put it in the article.Sjö (talk) 10:49, 19 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Both "get hold of" and "get ahold of" of are infrequent expressions. The former is rare - see:

I added this section and at the same time added material and citations to the original article (look back at the history). My impression was that it was someone associated with Ms Segerberg who first deleted it, so I restored it. But I agree with the current neutral editors removing it. For the record the (carefully cited) section included the following:

Ms Segerberg has a fondness for the phrase "get ahold of". For example, in "The Dogs of Riga", "And tell somebody to get ahold of the patrol officer".^[1] It also occurs in "Before The Frost",^[2] and "The Pyramid".^[3] It is unclear whether she is responsible for its constant recurrence in the Wallander series subtitling.

It also appears in her Kjell Eriksson translations "Since then it lay working in her subconscious but she couldn't get ahold of the loose thread" [Sedan dess låg den och arbetade i hennes undermedvetna men hon kunde omöjligen få fatt i den lösa trådänden].^[4] Ditto in John Ajvide Lindqvist, "He threw her off, twisted around, and both of them tried to get ahold of the other".^[5]
