start date

[edit]

Kawnhr, it sounds like we're going against sources to list this as starting Nov 18, regardless of who was premier. If we need a note explaining away a legit source, that is troubling. Are there any sources that say his cabinet formed on Nov 18 rather than Dec 7? Because if not, I think we should use Dec 7. Whether or not Horgan was still premier, it was still his collection of ministers, and so it's more than accurate to say Eby's cabinet did not begin until Dec 7 (again, unless there are sources indicating it did or that his ministers started their jobs early before the Dec 7 announcement. —Joeyconnick (talk) 23:42, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies, Joeyconnick; I raised this on WikiProject Canada noticeboard since it concerned two pages (and thus I figured it would be better to hold it in one place, and the project seemed the most neutral), but in retrospect I should have pinged you to the discussion as well. I will self-revert. — Kawnhr (talk) 00:19, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Kawnhr... oh ok, that makes sense. I like the way you've done it with the footnote but I'm thinking if the Legislative Library and the news articles are all using the Dec 7 date, we should probably list that as the start date.
If there are good sources that list cabinet as starting with the selection of the BC premier as opposed to the selection of the premier's cabinet, or that Eby's choices began their roles quietly before the official announcement, I am fine with Nov 18 as the main date with the explanation you've provided, but if the only sources regarding Eby's cabinet are all saying Dec 7, I think we should list that as the main date with a similar explanation but instead saying something to the effect of "While Eby became premier earlier, on Nov 18, Horgan's outgoing cabinet continued in their roles until Eby announced his own cabinet on Dec 7."
Oh... I just read through your comments and the two responses at the WP Canada page. Urgh. You know what? Probably not worth fretting over... let's just do it as you had it, with Nov 18 and the explanation. Thanks for being open to discussing it! —Joeyconnick (talk) 06:19, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It is an annoying situation, isn't it? Eby could have saved us all this trouble had he just appointed a new cabinet in a timely manner…
I take your point about the footnote I used though; I was trying to give context but it really does sound like I'm trying to contradict the sources (as well as be a bit on the long side, I think). I like your proposed alternative, it's more to the point while still clearly abiding by the source, so I'll use that instead. Though, I think I'll add a sentence about how Horgan's outgoing cabinet isn't considered part of Eby's ministry (per the Leg. Library)… but if you think I'm still pushing a bit too far, feel free to pull it back. — Kawnhr (talk) 22:17, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
sounds good to me! —Joeyconnick (talk) 04:34, 16 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
