Bumiputra privilege[edit]

Apparently there's no mention of the priveleges to the bumiputra, et al, which has of course, a great impact on the economy? -- Natalinasmpf 23:22, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Citations[edit]

I added the "missing citations" tag because there are a lot of unverified statements. Candent shlimazel 14:30, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I intended to fix some grammar in the NEP section, but ended up doing much more, including adding [citation needed] tags like lights on a xmas tree. I do intend to track down refs for those, but my 1 minute edit took me nearly an hour, so it won't happen soon. If someone has some pointers to where I should look for refs... thanks. ITC external link on trade data[edit]

Hello everyone, I am working for the International Trade Centre (ITC). I would like to propose the addition of an external link that could lead directly to the specific country’s trade data held by ITC. I would like you to consider this link under the WP:ELYES #3 prescriptions. Moreover, the reliability and the pertinence of this link can be supported by the following facts 1) ITC is part of the United Nations 2) No registration is required 3) Trade data (imports/exports) are regularly updated 4) The link gives direct access to the trade database of the specific country 5) The addition of reliable trade data to the Economy section of the country could provide an appropriate contribution to the information therein contained. 6) The other statistics external links in the page are broken Thank you for your attention.Divoc (talk) 04:12, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Misleading statement[edit]

I would like to refer to this sentence:

The ethnic Chinese control of the locally owned sector of the country's economy has been ceded largely in favour of the bumiputra/Malays in many essential or strategic industries such as petroleum retailing, transportation, agriculture and automobile manufacturing.

To my knowledge, the Chinese never controlled petroleum and automobile manufacturing. Their control over transportation and agriculture can be argued, but the sentence doesn't give the correct picture. I've read somewhere that 80% of Malaysian Chinese wealth resides in 14 Chinese families, but I can't find the sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.82.82.124 (talk) 08:15, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

10th largest trading partner?[edit]

" Malaysia was the United States' 10th-largest trading partner"

Can someone provide a source for this statement? According to this page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_largest_trading_partners_of_the_United_States) at least, the statement doesn't seem to be true. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.217.255.209 (talk) 08:09, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That was the situation at the turn of the situation (well, that's how it's written), so it would be different from the current article. CMD (talk) 10:13, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

External link to tariff data[edit]

Hello everyone, I am working for the International Trade Centre (ITC), a UN/WTO agency that aims to promote sustainable economic development through trade promotion. I would like to propose the addition of an external link (http://www.macmap.org/QuickSearch/FindTariff/FindTariff.aspx?subsite=open_access&country=SCC458%7cMalaysia&source=1%7CITC) that leads directly to our online database of customs tariffs applied by Malaysia. Visitors can easily look up market access information for Malaysia by selecting the product and partner of their interest. I would like you to consider this link under the WP:ELYES #3 prescriptions. Moreover, the reliability and the pertinence of this link can be supported by the following facts 1) ITC is part of the United Nations, and aims to share trade and market access data on by country and product as a global public good 2) No registration is required to access this information 3) Market access data (Tariffs and non-tariff measures) are regularly updated

Thank you, Divoc (talk) 09:43, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Revamp[edit]

I have revamped most of the article, both the layout and information due to the last major update being in 2008 and most of the info have already become outdated since then. I've moved over a lengthy part about Malaysia's economic history to a new page : Economic history of Malaysia and rewritten many parts to remove outdated and excessive info; previously it was such a pain to read due to the length of info and the lack of pictures. I've also added many new sections like individual sectors of Malaysia's economy under industry and services, as well as a whole new infrastructure section. Looks pretty good to me, but feel free to voice any opinions. — Junchuann  03:32, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Ease of Doing Business ranking[edit]

There's more information available at WikiProject Economics and the Ease of Doing Business article, in summary the last point was put out in 2020 and there are noted irregularities. So in terms of both an updating and validity angle we shouldn't be presenting it.

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose merging Rubber industry in Malaysia into Economy of Malaysia. I think the content in Rubber industry in Malaysia can easily be explained in the context of Economy of Malaysia in the Argriculture section like Palm Oil, and a merger would not cause any article-size or weighting problems in Economy of Malaysia as the Rubber industry in Malaysia article is quite short anyway.Traxezz (talk) 14:58, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The current Rubber industry in Malaysia article is a bit larger than any of the current industry sections on this page. I suspect there could be a bit more on rubber here, but I don't think merging it all is sustainable. (Noting as an aside that these are two quite undeveloped articles, so either could be greatly improved.) CMD (talk) 01:55, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Rubber industry in Malaysia article has the advert template, so I reckon it would be even shorter after removing promotional materials, which at that point would no longer be appropriate to have its own separate article. I doubt both Rubber industry in Malaysia and Economy of Malaysia articles would have any meaningful expansion in the near future(other than perhaps more paid advertisement on the former). In my opinion I think the Rubber industry article should be merged into the Economy of Malaysia for now, and if the section got expanded significantly in the future, it can be split into its own article again.
-- Traxezz (talk) 07:49, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I anything, Agriculture in Malaysia#Rubber production would perhaps be the better target. It is already listed as the 'main' article from that section. Klbrain (talk) 13:44, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Given that there's no objection to the counterproposal, let's move to a new discussion at the newly-proposed target. Klbrain (talk) 16:53, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
