New article[edit]

I submitted this article, because to my amazement wikipedia did not have an article on Ed Zern. He is mentioned in a few other articles, though.

There are about 1 million Ed Zern quotes and anecdotes that could be added. There is a serious need for a wikiquote page.

"Fish is brain food. People who eat fish have large, well-developed brains. People with large, well-developed brains don't fish. It's that simple." -- Ed Zern

"Tame swans live in parks and hiss at people. Wild swans are swans that don't have a park to hiss in." -- Ed Zern

Zern went to Yellowstone National Park, and immediately the head ranger sent word that he wanted to meet him. Zern's wife said to him, "I was only wondering why, the further we get from the centers of literacy, the better known your writing is."

Bryce Canyon was discovered by a rancher named Bryce, who owned the land. Someone asked Ed Zern, "What did Bryce think, the first time he saw that canyon?" Zern said, "He thought, 'That's sure one hell of a place to lose a cow.'"

There are still approximately a million left. How this guy was omitted until now, I have no idea. Wastrel Way (talk) 04:04, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sourced from Edzern.com only[edit]

All the references but the obituary (from New York Times) are currently sourced from the website Edzern.com, where material by and about Zern has been collected. I'm sure other sources for this material can be found. --83.255.55.91 (talk) 12:03, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree and I saw that problem when I was working on the article. Although there are undoubtedly other sources, they are probably in old magazines that are not online. I did google around for more. For instance, the article from Fly Fishing News, reproduced on edzern.com, was the main source for the biography. Other articles reproduced on edzern.com from the Spokane Chronicle of 1989 and the Detroit Free Press of 1977 might be archived online, or will be sometime in the future, and would be better sources than the website devoted to Zern. The December 1987 issue of Fly Fishing News will be hard to find. Wastrel Way (talk) 14:52, 27 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Edzern.com appears to be dead. Here's the archive at the Wayback Machine:
