New company will build plane[edit]

FLS bought the rights and sold them to AGI. Some parts to be made by Aerostar in Romania

I have lots of info on this plane. Google OPTICA and you will see my pages Frankenfoamy

Another company has the reigns, this time in Waco Texas. New name for the plane OPTICA LONE STAR. They expect delivery in 2008. The increased need for border surveillance maybe the new interest.

The plane's designer John Edgley, has taken back the ownership of the design and has a webpage for discussion. aeroelvira.co.uk — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frankenfoamy (talkcontribs) 16:18, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

One hopes that better staff will be employed this time: one of those involved with the original company was the proud co-inventor of a crackpot gyroscopic anti-gravity machine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.177.129.200 (talk) 12:54, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comparison to helicopters[edit]

How does it compare to equivalent helicopters? It presumably has longer range and endurance? Why has it been such a commercial failure? Bastie 22:35, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was a problem with wing spar cracks and a fire destroyed the factory. The Optica website lists 8 as destroyed in fire. Could be they were at the factory for repairs to the spars when it burned. Some that crashed may have been due to spar failures. The Optica website lists only 5 or 6 that are flying or considered airworthy. Want an odd aircraft? Got a few million UKP? Fund the return of the EA7 Optica (with better designed wing spar and fire resistant factory). Bizzybody (talk) 04:24, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Number built[edit]

Were 21 or 25 built? Both figures are given. Drutt (talk) 22:00, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Past Tense?[edit]

Why is past tense used if there are still Optica planes flying?
