I am guessing this is the same person, but am looking for more information.... --doncram 02:06, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edward Lloyd Thomas was the surveyor/planner of Columbus, Georgia. He provided for commons / green areas. http://pdfhost.focus.nps.gov/docs/NRHP/Text/64000124.pdf (pages 9, 10). (That NRHP document cites Goff, John H. "Edward Lloyd Thomas, Surveyor," The Emory University Quarterly, Vol. XVIII, Summer 1962, No. 2, pp. 107-119, which I'll look for.) Thomas was the surveyor in charge of the design of Columbus; surveying began in February of 1828 and the town had 1,000 residents by the next year. The surveyor was the general's father (1785-1852). See http://findingaids.library.emory.edu/documents/thomas479/. Donner60 (talk) 02:33, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
