War record[edit]

Little worrying that Root doesn't appear on the AWM WWI Nominal Roll since it is a fairly uncommon and singular surname http://www.awm.gov.au/nominalrolls/ww1/results.asp and we only have the assertion on the StG fan site to go by. But the Whiticker Collins encyclopedia also states that he was enlisted so that's something to go on. -Sticks66 00:17, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And is it actually "a distinction" that he was he "last representative footballer to go to the Great War" ? Actually what does this really mean, since he went to war before he represented. Surely he's the last Great War veteran to represent his country in .....what RL ? RU ? any code ?-Sticks66 13:46, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
