A Note on Names

[edit]

I'm not sure how to make an edit this expansive, but I think there may be a mistake with the names of the people described in this article. The owner of the Berry Hotel, described in Booker T. Washington's The Negro in Business, was Edward Cornelius Berry, not Edwin Berry. See for instance this portrait and the historical marker for the Hotel Berry.

I suspect the mistake may be due to Edward Berry's nephew, Edwin C. "Bill" Berry, a civil rights activist best known for his time in the Chicago Urban League. There is a brief bio of Bill here, and an interview with radio host Studs Terkel in which he remembers a conversation with Edward Berry. (The story starts around the 11 minute mark.) 2601:155:401:5760:2D89:581C:4E1:FBC4 (talk) 19:55, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
