identity[edit]

Two guys named Ehsanullah were held in Guantanamo.

  • One was transferred there on 2002-06-10;
  • One was transferred there on 2002-06-14;
  • One was repatriated on 2003-03-23;
  • One was repatriated on 2003-05-09;

We know the guy who was repatriated on March 23 spoke about being captured by Dostum's forces, sold for a bounty, and seeing GIs in Bagram desecrated a Koran by throwing it in a barrel that was being used as a latrine, and consequently was full of human waste.

It would be original research to put this in article space, but I can't help wondering whether the McClatchy team thought they were interviewing Ehsanullah (Guantanamo captive 523), but actually interviewed Ehsanullah (Guantanamo captive 350) -- because their guy also spoke about being captured by Dostum's forces, sold for a bounty, and seeing GIs in Bagram desecrated a Koran by throwing it in a barrel that was being used as a latrine, and consequently was full of human waste.

The McClatchy team wrote that their Ehsanullah was held for less than a year -- which you might think would be enough to distinguish him from all the other Ehsanullahs. But both of these guys were held for less than a year.

Alternately, both were captured by Dostum, sold for a bounty, and witness Koran desecration. It is not beyond the bounds of possibility, given the signs of amateurish record keeping, that their records got mixed up, and that Ehsanullah (Guantanamo captive 523) was really the guy who was released on March 23, 2003.

Captive --> Detainee[edit]

For the sake of consistency and following these three discussions [1] [2] [3] i have moved the page from Ehsanullah (Guantanamo captive 523) to Ehsanullah (Guantanamo detainee 523). IQinn (talk) 19:15, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
