Talk:Eight of Santa Maria Novella

The War of the Eight Saints appears to be about a war between Florence and Pope Gregory XI. This article is about the Eight of Santa Maria Novella, a group of political radicals within Florence who challenged the priors led by Michele di Lando who had been installed by the Ciompi revolt. Is the issue that I am incorrect in saying that they were alternatively called the Eight Saints? I assumed that the Eight Saints referred to here (G. A. Brucker, Renaissance Florence (London, 1969), p. 47) were the same as the Eight of the Santa Maria Novella referred to here (S. K. Cohn, Popular Protest in Late Medieval Europe (Manchester, 2004), p. 203) due to the context.

• OK, that explains it. I checked for "Eight Saints" and found the other article. Actually I can now see that it says "Buoninsegni had applied the appellation—used in August 1378 to refer to an eight-member group (Gli Otto Santi del Popolo di Dio) formed by the Ciompi revolt, which ensued immediately after the War of the Eight Saints". IMHO you should do a bit of work on both articles and create links between them. I'll remove the deletion notice. andy (talk) 16:26, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
