Existence

[edit]

@Fixer88: Does this island exist? At least in the location/name specified by GeoNames, it seems to be part of the Plock of Kyle where the golf course is. I can find is a place on North Uist[1] and a description of east of Eilean na Craoibh (which I also can't locate though there is Loch Eilean na Craoibhe Mòire in Highland but no where near Kyle but rather near Scourie. There is a mention in 1695 suggesting it could be Eilean Bàn? and more here, I can across this when checking articles for missing Commons categories. @Crouch, Swale: It's listed on page 349 of British Islands Pilot Volume IV as being 350 yards west of the Plock of Kyle, and also appears in the United Kingdom, Official Standard Names Approved by the United States Board on Geographic Names, page 281. It also seems to have the name "Eilean nam Gillean". Does this help? CiphriusKane (talk) 16:25, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@CiphriusKane: No unfortunately that doesn't, I've had another look for it based on those sources and all came up negative, including some other names such as Doctor's Rock. It could be the island opposite Eileanan Dubha. Even if it does exist with only passing mentions and no mention on maps its unlikely to be notable. I found this when checking missing Commons categories. I guess I should probably start an AFD. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:37, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's an old name for Eilean Bàn. We don't need two separate articles. This one should redirect to the main article, or simply be deleted. See http://www.kyleakinlocalhistorysociety.co.uk/dates.html for an indication of the equivalence. --188.29.26.237 (talk) 18:21, 18 March 2021 (UTC) (M)[reply]
That makes sense, let's redirect it. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:27, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you know how to do that, please do! --188.29.26.237 (talk) 18:30, 18 March 2021 (UTC) (M)[reply]
Done since the author hasn't replied and no one (apart from you) addressed the dubious tag. I'd noticed that Eilean Bàn didn't have a GeoNames entry. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:33, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
