POV

Shepard i.e. pastor.... i don't know , there is no citation . why should i believe that the meaning of Shepard is "pastor" Peppermintschnapps (talk) 09:35, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The original English meaning of "pastor" was "shepherd". Going back to Latin, the word "pastor" was "shepherd". See Wiktionary:pastor. EastTN (talk) 15:46, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In the course of general editing, I removed two biased statements from §1.2 Mandate, ¶3. While I tend to agree with the position, the implication of the title "Mandate" seems biased in light of the fact that the following paragraphs show a wide diversity of opinion on the matter of practical application, if not underlying interpretation of the passages of the biblical scriptures cited. While I think that there is great value in presenting verifiable, reputable third-party sources that support this implication and I know that the resources do exist, the entire section consists largely of and is presented in a manner that is very much like original research. This said, I do not have the time at this point to do the work of bringing this section up to Wikipedia's standards at this time, thus the addition of the {{Original Research}} and {{NPOV}} templates. OR

[edit]

An editor, citing WP:Original research, deleted nearly the entire article down to a stub (see diff). Much of the article actually is sourced, and the rest seems less like "original research" and more like too-few references. While the article should be referenced and could be improved, the existing material seems surprisingly encyclopedic and neutral. Most current Scriptural references are not needed for this article's purpose.

Agree.--Jeffro77 (talk) 14:15, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. I might have been a litty hasty in removing almost everything. Yet, lines such as "elders are used in different cultures" is definitie unsourced OR, and I have removed it. Warrior4321 14:34, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New version

[edit]

I've removed my two previous comments as they're now redundant - I've done an overhaul of this page here: User:Ohsimone/Elders_in_christianity. Will leave this comment for a few days to see if there's any comments, before replacing the old article. I think it's a bit better and takes care of some of the lack of citations and general formatting issues.

It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination: I don't know much about the distinctions and variations between denominations, so those areas need a lot of tidying up (esp. the JW, LDS sections). Leave me a message here or on my talk page. ohsimone (talk) 19:44, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

This is a procedural note - the discussion for the proposed merge is at Talk:Presbyter#Merge Proposal. Tevildo (talk) 20:47, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
