Need some media / critical reaction[edit]

Have to say the reaction to this has been pretty unfavourable, aside from the few brainwashed people and in-the-dark women's rights groups who think the King owned women in the first place.

Sorry, but this announcement is a joke at best, just like elections in Saudi Arabia. Who are you electing besides a person to be bossed by the King? Fact is the county doesn't have a legal right to take away human rights in the first place, and so the King has merely given women one of the basic human rights that he has no right to take away, while simultaneously ignoring others. There is nothing in islam about gender segregation or taking away rights.

Meanwhile, most people who are smart enough to step back and see this for what it is are critical of the move. "Forgive me if I don't bow in gratitude" to quote one HR activist. Why in 3 years instead of in this election? Why not driving? etc... I'd really like to see the article take in some of these sources (and there are plenty more if you search "saudi women vote") - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 14:25, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you think there's enough material to create Women's suffrage in Saudi Arabia as a separate article, or to extend the section in the present article, please go ahead. What would be more encyclopedic than Western mainstream media reactions would be what KSA women themselves are doing in their campaigns for their rights.
