Scott

[edit]

Why does Wikipedia refuse to give Scott Malkinson his own page?! I'm sick and tired of this wiki's treatment of people with diabetes as second class citizens. User:Overstay 01:30, 21 November 2001 (UTC)[reply]

So, did Scott win some contest or something? The way he appeared in the episode is highly reminiscent of the kid from the Blaintology episode, and if he did, it would be worth mentioning in the article. Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 05:30, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Every time there's a new character you're going to assume somebody won a contest? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.230.70.245 (talk) 15:35, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, use your bloody brain. The way they treated the character was exactly how they did with the other contest-winner.Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 08:37, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

High School Musical Box

[edit]

I removed the "high school musical" box at the bottom of the page, because although it is pertinent to the material, the episode is not a part of the formal set of media that the musical comprises. Rather, this episode is a parody of it. For comparison, there is not box at the bottom of "Do the Handicapped Go to Hell?" enumerating the books of the bible, even though the bible is heavily satirized in that episode. Cultural references

[edit]

I'm not going add any references, but i think they should be discussed since the entire episode makes fun of High School Musical. Once we have reached an agreement, i think they should be added, but i wont do it, because i dont want to be bitched at for doing so. --J miester25 (talk) 15:38, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, lets discuss then, what references, other than the obvious High School Music series are there? Jay794 (talk) 16:24, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

High School Musical is alread mentioned at the beginning of the plots. If there were any other references, they must have been incredibly subtle, cause I missed them. Mentioning each song is not a good idea, so I'm going to say that right now is probably the best we can get. Grsz11 →Review! 16:55, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The only reference I can think of is when the guys are in the cafeteria and Jimmy asks where have they been, and Clyde replies "Peru", as a reference to the Pandemic episodes. maybe also the songs used during the Basketball game?Jay794 (talk) 17:48, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I also picked up whem the gay dad was listening to We Will Rock You, he got into it, and its a very indirect reference that he enjoyed it and also the fact that Freddie Mercury was gay. Coincidence? The Pandamic reference should not be mentioned primarily because it is just a reiteration of the Pandemic episode and it is irrelivant to this episode. However, the reference i have provided, shows that he got into the music, maybe because he's gay and Freddie Mercury was also gay, and finally approved of his son playing basketball. --J miester25 (talk) 22:04, 13 November 2008 (UTC) I think 'We will rock you' was also included because HSM3 has a song called 'I want it all', which is different song than the Queen's 1989 huge European hit with exactly the same title. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.251.99.85 (talk) 00:24, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the other tune at the basketball game was Rock and Roll part 2 by Gary Glitter - A very camp 70s glam rock act. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.195.243.159 (talk) 19:20, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is this like the full monty, where someone mentions the "Ährsenal offside trap"?--85.164.221.212 (talk) 01:11, 23 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You don't have to be gay to like the song, y'know... - 84.27.9.117 (talk) 22:16, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah J miester, that's more of a weak association used to connect somethings that more speculation. his dad's not really gay, he's just chock full of estrogen, and also, "We Will Rock You" is a very common song used in sports. What I noticed was that Bridon's dad is the complete opposite of the father in High School Musical (yes i watched it, I hate it). In HMS, his father makes him play Basketball when he wants to sing and do theater.

While most of the other SP articles contain somewhat subtle-yet-important cultural references, this whole episode is a cultural reference, so a section is not really needed here. Sure defeats Alastairward's argument about South Park being a mostly important addition to TV, although the show does get preachy and portrays important messages quite a bit (with cultural references along the way).

Speaking of the devil, JMeister and Jay794, our old pal was recently blocked from editing. I thought you might like that, and just in case he links to this edit history like he's done before to prove we're out to get him, I sincerely love Alastairward, and would never make any even slightly derogatory comment towards him since all of his South Park edits are constructive and for the better of Wikipedia (lol). Thought you guys might enjoy that. Anthony cargile (talk) 01:55, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lol serves him right. Is there any other references that can be added? Jay794 (talk) 15:06, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sweet Victory! I mean, there's a bunch of shit list under Cultural Referenced that aren't true, like if you've seen "Lice Capades" talk page, one guy say's they're parodying Dick Cheney when they're not. But if it's something like a reference to Braveheart that's obvious and true, we should leave it. Alastairward just gets rid of it. I'm pretty damn tired of trying to fit these references into the plot (see Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery's plot summary for an example, since no one was brave enough to add that the episode Parodied Scooby Doo, for fear of invoking Alastairward's wrath, I added the part about Scooby Doo to the Summary.) I have done so on other episodes like Starvin' Marvin, the scene that parodied Braveheart, which I added to the summary. It was the only way to dodge Alastairward at the time since, I'm pretty sure he didn't even watch South Park or read the plot summaries, he just move the Cultural References. Now we can be free again.
And for the record, I fucking love Alastairward too. AznWarlord (talk) 03:30, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is one problem to your claim: one guy say's they're parodying Dick Cheney when they're not. Even if you disagree on a ceratin issue does not mean you are right. A consensus needs to be formed, more like a democracy, so that you can see who agrees with you and who disagrees. However, if you can prove a source that backs up your claim, like saying it is, then that user does have the right to bring his source forward and show other users where he is getting his information, so that his claim can be verified, THEN add the information to the article. Alastairward is right on certain issues, and i know he will not have a problem with you adding cultural references. What will continue from now on is that FACT TAGS will be added so that the information will still be in the article, but let viewers and users know that the claims need sources. the only thing he looks out for is reiterating the plot, and he's right. You shouldn't repeat information in the article that hints to the movement of the episode. Cultural References should not move a story and connect to the conclusion. That should only be in the plot, since it moves the story. What should be considered Cultural Refereneces is what stops the story entirely and gives insight to the satiric atmosphere of the episode. --J miester25 (talk) 15:21, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I found that at the end of the episode, when Kyle is singing, his hair is styled that that one kid from High School Musical (don't know his name). If this is not in the plot, i'll add the reference here so that people can agree it should go in the article, then add it to the Cultural Reference section in the article. --J miester25 (talk) 15:27, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. There is no mention of this in the plot. Ergo, I'll provide my cultural reference as such:
  • At the end of the episode, when the boys perform their song, Kyle removes his hat. He hair is styled like that of Corbin Bleu, who performed in High School Musical. here is my source: ^ "South Park Episode Guide - 1213". South Park Studios. Retrieved on November 18, 2008.
Since this is a primary source, as apporved by administrators in the past, this source will be enough verification for my claim. If anyone disagrees with such a claim, please inform me. --J miester25 (talk) 15:37, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have a reference from Southparkstudios to say that is the case? Alastairward (talk) 16:02, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Alastairward how you doing? Yeah remember Rogerbrent said that the link to video of the episode would be enough verification? Since i provided that source here, i dont see a problem adding it in the article. Do you agree that it should be added since my source verifies it? --J miester25 (talk) 00:57, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think I remember that, do you have a link to the talk page in question? Alastairward (talk) 01:08, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Heres a link to South Park Studios. On the left side, you'll see a picture of Kyle with his hair like that. If you still don't believe me, click on the link and watch the episode. Then tell me what you think: http://www.southparkstudios.com/guide/1213/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by J miester25 (talkcontribs) 01:18, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also, heres the link to your talk page (Rogerbrent added the information there): Removing South Park Material --J miester25 (talk) 01:25, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, the cite first. I take it you wish to say that Kyle looks like someone else, because you've seen the episode and it appears that way to you. That goes against WP:SYNTH, you're simply saying that you've seen two characters in two different shows and think they're alike and that this must mean that one references another.
Secondly, as for Roger's comments, while they're welcome, he doesn't appear to be an Admin and as such they aren't mandatory, simply a suggestion. From WP:Verifiability; "Editors should provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is challenged or likely to be challenged, or the material may be removed.". He didn't refer to Southparkstudios as a cite for everything, nor did he give an example of any particular information that could be cited. Alastairward (talk) 09:58, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So can you help me prove the claim? Like help me find the source for such an inquiry? --J miester25 (talk) 12:48, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be happy to. You could try the Southparkstudios FAQs. They update them fairly regularly, I was able to update a couple of episodes quite recently (I think you amended a link I'd added as a reference for one of them, thanks for that) with references from the writers themselves. It's a pretty good source for the show, it's where I found the reference for The China Probrem. Alastairward (talk) 13:26, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok great. I'll check it out when i get home tonight and provide the information here to show that its verifiable, if its even in there. --J miester25 (talk) 15:06, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know where I should put this, but just for fun, the boys haven't practiced/sing/dance for the public since their boyband days in "FingerBang". --[[[User:buttcrack|buttcrack]] (talk) 00:11, 22 November 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.131.218.165 (talk) [reply]

Hallway At the End

[edit]

In the final scene when the boys join in with the (very lame) fad. (is this crap ACTUALLY going on in REAL schools? Thank god I'm done) Wasn't that the same hallway from the episode where they had their own fake news channel. They did a story about kids using cough syrup to get high, and it showed a clip of 'Middle Park' school where the teachers banned cough syrup, and all the kids were walking down a hallway (the one in the final scene of this episode) and were coughing. Would this be a reference to another episode? A Goof? A spoof of a similar shot in High SChool Musical (I thankfully have not seen any, although my 8 year old cousin did tell me that in the third one, the new girl was being nice to the other girl but she was just doing it so she could be liked and she didn't really like her) Or did the school get some new addition to it? I know that animations constantly re-use shots like when someone is driving down a road, and I'm not trying to criticise it, but was just wondering if it should be mentioned. Tydamann (talk) 09:12, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I thought a lot of these schools use the same layout for their building to safe money? Also, they just reused the same hallway, I don't think it means anything. - Redmess (talk) 11:33, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you saw "Eek! A Penis" the episodes ends in the same hallway at South Park Elementary. I just assume all the schools look the same. AznWarlord (talk) 22:33, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Its been the same front hallway layout since Season 8 with the episode Vote or Die --J miester25 (talk) 12:51, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

[edit]

I don't know which genius put this up for deletion, but it is a South Park episode in a series. I know there have been conflicts over the episodes in the past regarding references, but come on! Doesn't it seem odd to leave one out when we have all of the others?

Thats just stupid. If you are the person who put the afd template on the page, please let me know so I can avoid you on the rest of wikipedia.

Keep

Oh, I vote KEEP. Retarded. Anthony cargile (talk) 00:26, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously Keep. Can we get rid of this stupid tag? Jickyincognito (talk) 01:20, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep it. Why would deletion even be considered? Stuartfaz (talk) 03:25, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep, I guess we're all just gonna have to sigh and vote Keep. AznWarlord (talk) 03:31, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, that should do it - I'm removing the stupid tag. If anybody objects, leave it on my talk page, I'd love to find out who did this. Anthony cargile (talk) 04:55, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep, really weird deletion request. The person who put this up for deletion is going to have a great times rummaging through the List of Family Guy episodes. --Factorylad (talk) 14:05, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep, it was obviously put up by someone who's not at all familiar with the accepted standard for documenting television episodes, which this page falls squarely into. PyroGamer (talk) 19:35, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep, I don't understand why it would be up for deletion. Jay Firestorm (talk) 23:08, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep It is a southpark episode. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Backvoods (talkcontribs) 05:29, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I was wondering what this was doing here, if anyone wants to keep the article as is, please contribute using the link in the AFD template. Alastairward (talk) 15:19, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

KEEP: Part of the reason why Wikipedia exist is to provide more insight about topics that expand as an encyclopedia that gives information about every aspect of something. Deleting just THIS article is going against the Status quo of wikipedia. i have looked at the Deletion page of this article and one person claimed that ALL the episodes should be removed from wikipedia and only keep the main South Park article. But what if someday, someone very new to South Park comes along, reads the South Park article, and says "hm, i wonder what the episodes of this show is about so i can get an idea of what is satired in South Park." If we remove those articles, that person would be very disappointed because he was unable to read sourced information about the episodes of South Park --J miester25 (talk) 15:22, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's cool, the consensus was (overwhelmingly) to keep, the nominator is just waiting for an admin to remove the AfD link on the main article page. Alastairward (talk) 16:34, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Strong keep Why bother to remove or even put a tag on this page when other articles don't have any tag on it? If you are going to delete this article you might as well delete all previous south park episode articles. Oh and btw the user who put that deletion notice up was admin Tone. Put a notice there saying what a stupid idea this was. Zachorious (talk) 07:29, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

References to Other Media

[edit]
  • The diabetes joke is in reference to the Hannah Montana: Season 3 Premiere that dealt with diabetes. Disney decided that the episode was not in good taste and decided not to air it.

This needs to get deleted unless you can cite it, which I highly doubt. How in the blue hell does the diabetes kid reference Hannah Montana? 70.132.145.110 (talk) 16:30, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That information has already been deleted. --J miester25 (talk) 15:23, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Citation needed in the lead

[edit]

Seriously, do we need this? It's so ass-numbingly obvious it's a HSM parody. As in, "the sea contains water" obvious. Whether it's a parody of Senior Year specifically or the film series as a whole is splitting hairs, but it's still obvious enough that a reference isn't really needed. Sceptre (talk) 18:45, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If it is so obvious, it should be easy to find a source. -- The Red Pen of Doom 18:48, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If it's so obvious, you don't need to find a source. But just to placate you, you have the French source, the Peruvian source, and the Seattle PI source. Besides, the South Park Studios episode guide indicates that HSM is part of the plot. Hell, you'd probably need to cite the fact it's not a parody given that. Sceptre (talk) 20:16, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We would normally prefer the English 3rd party source, but the link to PI is dead, so we will use South Park Studios. Thanks! -- The Red Pen of Doom 22:29, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
